I miss when things were slower.

Want to know about the Hittites? That's a trip to the library -- encyclopedia volume H. While you're out, maybe your bud tried to call. Best check the answering machine when you get home. Lost? Better pull out that atlas from the car door. Don't mind the mysterious stain.

Having lived it, I understand the urge. We're not built for this.

I love Sony phones. But Sony doesn't love me (exited the North American market, expensive AF).

I'm clinging to my Xperia 5 IV as long as I can.

An interesting consideration, considering he doesn't seem to tire.

While there's no real solution yet, please don't engage with him.

This is something I've got to work on. I've gone soft having cut the cord on social 15 years ago.

I've taken the bait, and I'm not proud.

He makes about six new accounts a day.

He'll post links to gore, too.

So, while this user (and their many reincarnations) has really impacted my enjoyment of Lemmy over the last couple of weeks, they do highlight one of the larger shortcomings of the platform. There's nothing stopping an unstable, disturbed, bored person from grinding through accounts. A problem on any platform, for sure. Though folks like this do seem to filter out in the noise of larger projects.

I don't have a solution for this. But I'm nearly to the point of tearing down my own instance.

💯 gender affirming care. So why do only some men qualify?

I'm no psychologist, but I'd say there's too much yet to lose. People aren't going to blow up their lives over the slow boil until there's no food left. It happened to the French when they marched for bread.

When folks have nothing left to lose is when it starts.
