Yes, good point. I used that term incorrectly. And I didn't intend to disparage any major. If you have the cash, by all means, study what you want and enjoy learning. I have an art degree myself. I just didn't need the degree to get a job. I could have built a portfolio on my own if I had the motivation.

Purely from the academic side...

  1. Go to class. Don't take online/remote classes if possible. Don't skip. If you need extra incentive, calculate how much you are spending per class. Getting your ass out of your dorm/apartment will help motivate you and do more stuff. This will be an unpopular opinion, but I suggest taking the earliest classes you can and stacking them up. It will give you more time to get your work done later.

  2. Sit in the FRONT row. It will help you pay attention. Take notes. Not on a laptop. By hand. Writing will help you remember.

  3. Work hard/play hard. Weekends are yours, but weekdays are for getting shit done. This will help you build good habits for after you are done with school. College is super expensive. Don't fuck it up.

  4. Don't take a major that doesn't have some type of acreditation. Again, this will be unpopular, but ask yourself if you could learn stuff on your own/through experience/as a student-at-large. Accounting: yes. Medicine: yes. MBA: yes. Law: yes. You can't do those things without college. Art: no. Philosophy: no. Just go DO those things. Take a class if you want to strengthen your skills, but you need to be incredibly driven to succeed.

He couldn't possibly have done it. He and I were playing mini-golf high as fuck.

I keep seeing it framed as the data centers using too much water. They need the water for the excessive HEAT they produce, with all the ELECTRICITY generated by (in mist cases) FOSSIL FUELS.

JD looks so confused. "Wait. Did somebody die?"

It's difficult to think of a more punchable face than Sam Altman's.

I don't agree with your position, but people downvoting you for it based on the question is nonsense.

Hey, remember school during COVID? When most kids wouldn't even bother turning their cameras on for remote learning? That worked out real well. What these dickheads are trying to push ignores the social aspect of learning. Sure, some people can learn in isolation, but many/most of us benefit from being around others. Processing information involves synthesizing your own thoughts, but also analyzing the thoughts and behaviors of others around you. And this doesn't even consider the motivation that a good teacher can provide and how it can build self esteem and self efficacy. The content, while not insignificant, is a vehicle to help people learn how to think, and not just acquisition of facts.

I did a quick search and other suggestions are to fill the "mic hole", stick a needle in the mic hole to damage the mic, and applying a soldering iron to the mic. My LG tv has no visible mic hole, so they are getting crafty at hiding them.

I live near a major airport and see commercial planes with huge front headlights shining in the night sky. What could they be good for way up in the sky, though? I get that when they are taking off/landing headlights are necessary. Why not give them lights like a boat, with a green in front and a red in back?

Pic from a fen restoration I help with. Prettiest one I've seen.

Anyone have a method for determining the best stem length and rise? I'm a casual road cyclist and I feel like I have too much weight on my hands, noticable more on longer rides. I kinda feel like it should be an inch (2-3 cm) shorter, but not sure how rise would impact that. How do I go about finding whats right without trying 4 or 5 stems? Any help is appreciated!
