MODERATOR OF
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm just writing down all the reason I had, and obviously there are different opinions on how to moderate on how not to moderate, and what content to allow. This community particular was young and in the making, I asked politely to tone it down, so I can find mods, setup rules and think about what content should be expected. Jumping all users and each post in a that manner was not helping that community and did nothing to connect communities at that point. We openly communicate other places to subscribe, too and where to look.

See, you cannot create content in a community, if every second post is about another community, instead of the topic that should be discussed. This is no shitty reason at all.

From my perspective the wrong impression. The community was young and in the making, I asked politely to tone it down, so I can find mods, setup rules and think about what content should be expected. Jumping all users and each post in a that manner was not helping that community and did nothing to connect communities at that point. We openly communicate other places to subscribe, too. You cannot create content in a community if every second post is about leaving that community, instead of the topic that should be discussed.

https://lemm.ee/post/57526943 good communications style. Almost not condescending.,

I told you from the beginning: It is not about me being a mod. It is about honoring the decision of the people who think differently than you. It is okay if you deem them not worthy of having a community, but please 🙏 just let them be.

You can simply foster other communities by good quality content, and people will join. They got links to find you. They got posts to find you.

Please, let it rest and focus on constructive community building.

You keep on mixing up two things. One the reason you got banned and calling me/us power tripping.

Second point the discussion about a merger. I take it that merging is so dear to your heart, that you fight for it. That is fine, and well. What you don't get is, that other perspectives have validy, too. You keep on ignoring that and bringin the discussion to each and every community. Sometimes even in an hostile and toxic manner (lemme.ee) .

In other words: you seem to be quite fixated an numbers and have a rough, even hostile commnication style, even victimizing yourself, without telling the whole story and inflaming drama. Why would I want to merge in such a community?

Also: how come, you can not accept the deciscion of others? Isn't that trippy itself?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

TBH: doesn’t look too respectful without knowing the other side of the story 🙂

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (13 children)

If your logic applies, we should never have left reddit .

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago (15 children)

See. What I don’t get. If you’re against a community, just don’t participate. You wouldn’t walk in somebodies living room and start a conversation on how much you like the other dudes place.

Just go to that other dudes place and enjoy the better company.

That way all people can do things they enjoy.

Hi, the critizied, accused and power-tripping mod here.

Not adding something to the debatable merging discussion, which sure can be a talked about and is even talked bout at other places, and now here again.

The perspective missing is, that a team of mods, even of other communities talked about the course of action. Reason is, that I'm quite new to moderation, and I did not want to overreact. People native to the instance decided to stick with the community, and the debatable vote added weight to that sentiment. One guy brought the topic up over and over again and tried to position an alternative community instead of adding content to both communities.

Other mods recommended to ban him for a week or for good. I decided to engage in communication and asked to postpone discussing that issue in that particular community. Also I asked to stop gurilla advertising another commiunithy while that community was in a built up phase.

After futile mitigation attempts a 3 days ban, coordinated with about 3+2, mods was applied.

This is my whole power trip, and I'm so addicted to it, that I onboarded more mods and employed a voting system, so that banning only happens, when no other way of settling an issue can be achieve.

Edit: The full ban reason was. "Recurring egress linking without providing content for siphoning users. Promotion of community dissolvement." The textfield was a little small.

Since I canceled Claude (US boycott) I'm really enjoying https://chat.mistral.ai/ It might be a few months behind quality wise, but it is really fast, which is great for quick searches and brainstorming. It even has a canvas feature now.

This really gives me hope! Great french AI Tool!

Where to start? (feddit.org)

(Repost with author change)

In the last weeks several databases and websites emerged around the idea of buying European, or local.

Coming from different communities overviews of products and services can (for example) be found at the following websites:

If you are using Firefox or Chrome you can be nudged to do better by using the opensource Go-European-Plugin:

What to expect? (feddit.org)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hi, the mods had a first chat on what this community should be all about. For those uninitiated we’ve collected the forerunner lore of this community bellow.

We are well aware that there is a growing sentiment to buy European, local or for some to simply boycott USA made goods. Different people have different expectations and goals. The movement, if you want to name it that way, is taking place at different platforms with different hashtags like #buyFromEU or #buyEuropean . We’ve got to figure out what this particular community will be all about.

The forerunner left us with a buyFromEU community inviting to talk about European-made goods and services. As the post Where to start? implies there are already several well-made sites that serve as community driven catalogue, where you can lookup stuff.

We would love for you to also discuss and share products and services here. Beyond of that you may also post relevant news, as long as they are related. E.g. if they are reassuring our buying decisions or if they affect us in a broader way. Posts where you share your successes would be even better. E.g. if you tell people about how you transitioned from products and services, so we see, that it can generally be done or where problems lay.

Due to the inherited name, buyFromEU we would like to soft limit the discussion to the European Union countries. We are tempted to read this as EU + friendly countries as long as this is within reason.

There are other European communities we invite you to subscribe too.

Due to the topic of products and services this community will consist of product placement. It might be hard to distinct between advertisement and a faithful review or proposal. This community is not meant for blunt advertisement and affiliate links will be removed.

Please feel free to comment on that idea and if anything is missing to us @[email protected]
 @[email protected].

Lore

A traveler from a place called Reddit found this realms. In his desperate search for shelter he made a unique account on feddit.org and named himself Soggy_Commission_934. Exhausted from the journey and almost with his last might, he opened the community buyFromEU and began to write an introduction for the sidebar. His thoughts are preserved in this tradition:

Welcome to BuyFromEU - A community dedicated to supporting European-made goods and services! Whether you’re looking for locally produced fashion, technology, food or services, this is the place to share, discover and promote businesses that contribute to a stronger European market. Rules: 1. Stay on topic 2. No Self-Promotion or Spam 3. Be Respectful & Civil 4. No Counterfeit or Non-European Products 5. No Politics or Nationalism 6. No NSFW 7. Moderator Discretion Applies.

Little did he know, that other refugees and even some native fedditers would be attracted to this place. In the midst of his quest questions about the purpose of this realms came up and discussions broke loose. Personal messages were sent and Soggy went silent. In a last act of sacrifice he promoted a887dcd7a, a mere stranger, to Mod and vanished for good.

Soggy shall from now on be known as: the forerunner : he who made path.

Okay. This really is a movement. I’m wondering how big it is after all? I mean there are several reddit and lemmy communities, but aren’t that only rather small groups?

Coming from @[email protected] as a post comment. He also mentioned These 10 companies control everything you buy dated 2017.

This may help navigate brands and brand owners.

Moderators wanted (feddit.org)

Admin meinte, ich könnte mich hier melden. Im Matrix bin ich schon vorstellig geworden. Ich hatte die Community geerbt und versuche der nun eine Richtung zu geben.

Anbei der Post aus der Community.

TLDR: say hi if your want to help moderate.

Hi folks,

this community needs you 🫵… well, at least 1 or 2 of you to moderate (and the others to do what they do).

I'm looking for about two further moderators. The community is not too big and traffic not so high(, yet) and I’m sure we can handle that in a small group.

Preferably these people should be feddit.org natives and be ready to use Matrix chat for quicker communications.

Overall I imagine only few necessities to moderate but if bigger decisions need to be made, a transparent consensus oriented process shoud apply. If consensus cannot be reached we might need to Ouija first Mods will 👻.

After assembly First steps would be to talk about how to shape this community. What contents are preferred, what rules should be applied? Are we talking European in sense of the continent or EU (hint: I don’t have a strong opinion in this). I prefer to have the Mods to have a common ground on those topics and then present/discuss the idea in a public post and adjust the sidebar accordingly.

My ideal The pages shared in Where to start? make a great job of categorial listing products and services, we shouldn’t compete with that. At this place I would love to see people present and discuss European services and products, and more importantly share success stories or their impressions to inspire others. But if someone has a brighter idea, we (le futur Mods) should be listening.

Full transparency Original Mod left his house rules in the sidebar I’m trying to honor that. For selection I’m going to take a look at a user’s profile and maybe have a quick chat just to make sure people are really interested in building a community.

Edit: grammar and spelling.

Rules (feddit.org)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

There are some server rules which apply. Please be aware of them.

Beyond of that:

  • Try to stay on topic
    • It is easy to get sidetracked
  • Mind to (soft)limit the discussion to the European Union countries
    • 27 and counting
  • Try to avoid non-fitting politics
  • Only faithful product/service recommendations. No advertisement.
  • Excel and be excellent to each other

Banning

Except in cases of gross violations of the server rules, banning (temporary/permanently) happens coordinated by all mods, or in case of absence, coordinated with the other mods of this server (matrix chat).
Banning is a last resort, if preceding discussions could not settle the issue. If you got banned, feel free to appeal to the mods via private message.
