As a rule of thumb, if you think you need to see a doctor, see a doctor.

A first step may be your general practitioner. But it's not unreasonable to do a check-up with a cardiologist once a decade, better identifying risk factor when they're still risks rather than disease.

Note shat while États-uniens is sometimes used in French, it's not really used beside some left wing intellectual wanting to brag about America being the continent and sometimes sounds mildly anti American but not too much

While it's indeed a better word than American, one can also argue that USA aren't the only United States as a larger federation e.g United Mexican states so you can make the same argument about états uniens

True goal: start making butter that's as good as Kerrygold.

This says a lot about the state of US dairy industry if you consider kerrygold as the "gold standard for butter"

Until you're on the verge of dying it's never too late.

People go (back) to university later, either to get an extra degree/qualification to advance their career or to finally find the job/qualification they want. Depending on your location, and CV you may not have to do some course, and be allowed to retake a year/test as often as you want (Because university understand that a 40 something adult, sometimes with kids, can only follow 1-2 class per semester).

At lest it's work giving a couple of call to your university, they most likely have a person dedicated to adult student which can guide you through the process. Note also that depending on your country/status you may be eligible to some government help (usually through unemployment agencies)

It's an interesting societal question. Every worker has the right to social security, which should be paid by the employer. Is a prince who get an allowance a worker ? I don't know the list of duties coming with it.

20 years ago, a group of french Ph.D student who were funded by a large cancer/disability foundation went to court to get social security, and they win, because they weren't given pocket money by the foundation but were actually working for them, giving them the same right as every ohter worker. When you're 25 year old you may not need social security (well breaking a leg may happen) but when you're 60 year old you have significant chance to get large medical fee.

Anyone has the right to criticise any government. Tons of Lemmy thread on [email protected] are basically foreigner giving negative (and sometimes positive) critics about government with sometimes locals giving contexts

If you can criticise dictatorship like Russia, North Korea you can also criticise democracies like US or France. Even better, in these countries, you can legally do it from national soil, while in dictatorship you'd get into trouble
