Have you looked into Phoenix Point? It's an xcom clone by one of the guys who made the original xcom. It's replaced the mainline xcom reboots for me.

Started work on this little beauty late last year, and after an initial fuck-up in which I soldered the microcontrollers on upside down (I'm forever grateful for the fact that my gf's dad has a hot air desolderer), it's been an absolute pleasure to type on.

Switches are Zealios V2, and I've added O-rings to soften the clack.
