I would love a more generic name

Considering the general userbase is very open-source focused, we should promote FOSS alternatives. Instead, we could call it GimpBattles. Then people would know we mean business. /s

On a serious note, I understand that familiarity is important and helps with users that are migrating over here but I have always felt it's the perfect opportunity to do away with some of the dumb subreddit names (all the ___Porn names, like EarthPorn)

Lemmy is not reddit, that's the point of Lemmy.

Only problem is, because of our languages laws, the back side is just the same label but in the other language.

I had to get someone to find a wireless keyboard they left in a random box because they never used it, yet they still connected the USB receiver for it.

If there's anyone who has any valuable input about multiple accounts, it's this guy.

See, I don't even know. The term is used so broadly. It's basically just "Lemmy users I don't like"

You're about to get 10 different answers, most would say

  • Any user from the Lemmygrad and Hexbear instances, and some from Lemmy.ml

  • Genocide deniers

  • Pro-Russia and pro-China users

I think it's just a derogatory term for anyone that's anti-imperialism/liberalism

Just a couple more things to add:

Sometimes the tile will update on the server but your browser will still show the old one. You can press Ctrl+Shift+R to do a more thorough reload of the webpage.

The tiles are usually pretty quick to update at high zoom levels (like when you're zoomed all the way in) but they are slower to update the more zoomed out you are.

It hasn't stopped people from thinking that "communism" is a synonym for "bad".

Knowing which map you are looking at will be helpful. It's a little confusing but OSM technically is just data and then maps are built from that data.

Street Complete makes a map, which is different from OsmAnd, which is different from Organic Maps, but they all use the same data.

I'm guessing you were just looking at the main openstreetmap.org website and used the built-in editor. The Standard layer is called OpenStreetMap Carto and the editor is called iD.

Whenever you submit edits from the editor, the Standard layer on the OSM website will automatically update. This usually only takes a couple minutes, but you will need to refresh the page to see the changes. OsmAnd and Organic Maps usually provide updates every month that need to be downloaded to see.

If you want, you can shoot me a message and I can take a look in the area as well.
