I thought that part of the reason she was running for senate was that her district had been gerrymandered out of existence - if so, she will only be in the house until January.

At what point does it become socially acceptable to say to these people, “Fuck your god”?

Except that the only way you get everyone a baseline income of $75k is by taking it from the billionaires, thus reducing the gap much more substantially

As a Star Wars fan, I heartily concur

Anyone else think that looks suspiciously like Christian Bale?

And I specifically hope for it to be of natural causes, like a massive coronary, preferably in front of cameras and reporters. Martyrdom must be avoided.

I’m saying that many governments today and throughout history have committed acts of terrorism, including Israel and the US, as well as their opponents.

I don’t know what this shot is from - in this scene in the film Luke is wearing a yellow leather jacket

Ideally, the Democrats would simply refuse to negotiate at all - as far as I am concerned, their demands are the bare minimum, and if those aren’t met I would rather DHS just stay shut down indefinitely. I feel bad for the TSA workers, air traffic controllers, and FEMA workers, but if them quitting en masse after too long without pay is what it takes to grind things to enough of a halt to get some real changes made, it is better than having to shut down all federal workers, which would still be an acceptable method IMHO.

Also, can anyone explain why the Big Ugly Bill means this doesn’t affect funding for ICE/CBP/etc? I don’t understand how they can be part of DHS but separately funded. AFAIK, the shutdown discussions are related to raising the debt ceiling, and even though Congress has allocated all those insane billions to immigration enforcement, it’s all still borrowed money. I’m sure there is an explanation that makes sense, but I have yet to hear it elucidated.

Exactly - we’ve allowed our government(s) to dilute the definition of terrorism through constant misuse. It’s not terrorism to attack military targets, even if the attacker is a stateless actor. Similarly, it is terrorism to attack civilians, even when perpetrated by a government. Terrorism is not simply a catch-all term for unsanctioned violence.
