This is the real worry. And it isn’t a possibility, it’s a certainty. I wish we could just assume that some hateful asshole will be next and maybe they’ll be smart. But here’s the problem with that. Smart people are watching what Trump’s doing, and learning that being a hateful asshole actually works. Look at JV Dunce. I’m not sure he was born a hateful asshole but he sure is good at being one now. Some smart person will put on the hateful asshole act, and it probably won’t even be that much of an act. And they’ll probably have an easier time getting elected than Trump, who is a bloviated carpet bag of liabilities with just enough luck to keep failing up.
