Last time Trump was elected, the world (particularly America's allies) said a lot about how awful he was but didn't do anything to hurt him seriously.

When he won again, knowing he had the Project 2025 folks as part of his new regime, I feared the same would happen. That as he ground down the American people, the rest of the world would talk big but do nothing. Nations the world over have a bad habit of only intervening when you hurt people outside your own borders. So long as he hurt only people inside the US, nobody would want to turn off the US money printer.

But this time he stepped outside US borders, too quickly and too rashly with his tariffs. Nationstates may be slow to act, but the people of those Nations are acting faster. Boycotts, rally around the flag effects, backlash against right leaning groups previously aligned with Trump.

It's not much, it won't break the American empire by itself. But it's more than I expected to happen, so I'm hoping it is just the start.

I think it's a self-selecting issue. Entrepreneurs who are content to start a business that pays for a comfortable life dont reach out to endless investors. They'll take loans, not stake in their company. They won't constantly reach for attention to justify higher valuations, and therefore higher investments. They're more likely to stay private and not go public for the same reason, which lessens awareness of them outside of direct customers.

Nobody would be talking about Tesla as much if it wasn't an investment device (and its CEO would likely be a less loudly evil person too). It'd just be a car manufacturer, and the only relevant thing about it would be the quality of its cars and the happiness of its customers. No investors to wonder about "growth potential".

I don't wanna risk getting hopeful before the empire and tyrant are properly toppled...but I am feeling more hopeful now than when he was first elected.

Walking through Dublin is so depressing. Our (few) pedestrianised streets see tons of footfall, people enjoying themselves. The other 98% is just car choked streets where people rush as fast as they can to their destination.

We're an old city, with cramped streets. Bikes would be so much more sensible than trying to squeeze another lane of traffic in at the expense of a walkable, clean, healthy city. But car owners, and car park owners get loud whenever they try.

Yeah, because fighting a war on drugs has worked so well for every other country that's tried it.

Yeah, that's what I thought they worked as. I used to host my files for on my own cloud drive and that had no issues. They do have one off 'support payments' you could get if you wanna support them but not get a subscription.

Is Obsidian not free? I haven't used it for a while, but I don't remember paying for it at any point. <_<

Apple, Mac OS, Windows, and Web. Android is coming, but I don't see any timeline anywhere about how long it'll take. I have it working on my phone by turning the web version into a shortcut on my home screen, which is working fine, but a dedicated app would be much appreciated.

Yeah, it's a shame. I have the website set up as a shortcut on my homescreen which works just fine, but it'd be easier if they had a proper Android app.

As per one of the creators over on Reddit:

"I’m Amber, one of the founders of Griply: a goal-setting app proudly built in the Netherlands by a small self-funded team of four.

We created Griply out of frustration with how scattered personal development tools were. One app for goals, another for tasks, another for habits… it just didn’t make sense. So we built one app that brings it all together.

A lot of our users have switched from their “regular” task manager because they wanted something more goal focused - not just for ticking off tasks - but for making real progress on what matters to them.

With Griply, you can:

  • Set life goals and break them down into subgoals, habits & tasks -Make goals measurable with goal metrics (money, distance, weight, etc.) -Track your progress visually with charts -Organize by life area, priority, or type -Manage your daily tasks like any other task manager -Add widgets for your goals, habits, and tasks to your home screen -Use it across iOS, Mac, Windows & Web

We’re building this with a lot of passion. If you’re into productivity, self-improvement, or just love trying out European-made tools, we’d love for you to check it out. Any feedback is welcome."

An Android app is coming soon, and is in development. There's a signup on their website if you want to be notified when it's released.

It does also recommend InteractiveBrokers as an alternative for...Degiro? Not sure what lead to that decision being made.

Yeah, I think having multiple of this type of site or list can't hurt. Different people are going to prefer to get their info in different ways. There's a github list (which the maker needs to move to codeberg :p ) which is my preferred way of identifying replacements - it's easier to handle on mobile.

They're all being run by different people, it's not like work on one distracts from another.
