I just switched to GrapheneOS myself -- and yeah I'm feeling the inconvenience. Having to do workarounds curretly to get RCS working (T-Mobile, AT&T), not having an option for tap-to-pay bc "Your operating system is insecure" ๐Ÿ™„) and Google/Apple/SamsungPay are your only options. Haven't tried adding any tickets or transit passes to see if they work with NFC yet.

In general I feel better finally having switched off stock android because in my friend group I'm the only digital privacy advocate and have been talking about doing it forever. However, as I continue to transfer to the new device, I notice more and more the number of apps that I use that are only available through the play store. Health and banking apps that are the only convenient way to use a service on mobile. Apps that are necessary if you travel a lot.

Basically it's incredibly hard to de-google if you're not in the apple ecosystem. I have one co-worker who has started "digital homesteading" (self-hosting) a lot of stuff for their family, and has discovered: it's an incredible amount of stuff we offload into the cloud. E-mail, photos, personal documents, calendar, health, finances, streaming media instead of owning it. Transitioning all of that remote convenience to an on-prem setup at home (or a cloud VPS I guess) is very possible with self-hosted alternatives. But, it requires a high level of technical knawledge and expertise AND now you're the IT person for all of that infrastructure.

"The AI hallucinated the brutality, your honor."

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, just because they're a dissident that speaks out often against authority who we clearly would like to silence doesn't mean the AI is biased in its assessment of their guilt."

Nice reference haha

I have met at least one other person IRL that has seen UHF. There must be dozens of us!

Jake Paul (controversial USian idiot that fought Mike Tyson a while back) v Anthony Joshua, British professional fighter. Paul got a broken jaw.

  • Unrealistic anatomy of the hand in close-up
  • The way the cutting board appears to "bend" behind the curvature of the hand at the top
  • Unnatural perspective lines
  • The weird line with the fish's tear
  • The fact that the fish is so wackily angled compared to the sushi, though that could be photoshop
  • It has that slightly uncanny-valley luminescence that LLMs add to images

See whatcha did there lol

Can we just leave people alone for fuck's sake. What's this reporter's malfunction that it matters so much that someone is bi? Is it hurting you? Are they affecting anyone else by existing? Just let people find love and be happy.

"I need you to prove it to me"

Get fucked

Did this as well! But, we used sous vide turkey breast, and only made enough fixings for the sandwich instead of making the whole meal first (there's only two of us). Had the leftover sandwich for Thanksgiving dinner!

Second this for the melatonin. I do the gummies, and not frequently. It definitely knocks you out, but YMMV when it comes to a little grogginess on waking.

Knew somebody had to have made a webapp...

some from that list:

  • onto
  • outdo
  • overdo
  • oregano
  • orzo
  • oleo

Learned on a 2000s era VW Beetle, and then a Mazda B2500 FW/2WD. Last manual I owned was a 2015 Honda Fit. Now both our vehicles are Automatic AWD.

I did get to drive a little 4cyl manual SEAT on holiday in Madeira which was an adventure. 36% grade roads, hairpin turns -- like 150cc mario kart around there

Such a strange funny movie. Haven't seen The Little Hours in a while

Got here on Thursday, went out Friday and Snowmass was almost all straight ice. Then, Friday and Saturday night it snowed!! So got to ride some pow. Managed to do some black diamond/mogul runs which is a big level up for me

Got in a couple days at the 'Boat! Hadn't been back to Steamboat Springs in a minute. Heading to Aspen Snowmass this weekend--looks like some pow is forecasted... ๐Ÿคž

Felt good to do something. This one was peaceful, but as has been observed many times before, peaceful protests don't often have the desired effect.

This was a fascinating and informative read. I hope the author makes progress on "creating an open-source project to de-cloud and debug smart home products"; I would love to contribute to something like that!
