Damn is that expensive though. But I think Amazon sells at a discount to make money on the bookstore.

Interesting low-cost measure to not use a front-derailleur

The S2 model aimed to give riders an uphill climbing gear but without introducing the complexities of a gear-shifting derailleur, tensioned cables, and handlebar shifters. Engineers at SRAM came up with a solution that's hard to imagine for other bikes but not too hard to grasp. A freewheel in the back has two cogs, with a high gear for cruising and a low gear for climbing. If you pedal backward a half-rotation, the outer, higher gear engages or disengages, taking over the work from the lower gear. The cogs, chains, and chainrings on this bike are always moving, but only one gear is ever doing the work.

Probably not of much use but I thought it was cool

Well it doesn't seem like there's been another Reddit exodus, especially from looking at the user numbers for Lemmy. There hasn't been a big screwup lately like with Meta or Twitter (but I think Bluesky is absorbing the Twitter refugees currently).

Of course, but it's entirely unrelated to the body of the article.

When they write "college" in the image I think they mean university, not CEGEP. University is still a good ways from free, being $4k-$5k/yr. And that's just for in province students, it's more for non-Quebec but still Canadian students.

In Germany (and maybe the other listed countries but I'm less informed on them), university is free as well. I think it also doesn't depend which state you're from.

I do love the tongue-in-cheek title that CBC put on this article.

Absolutely. This has made me acutely aware that my days with MS are numbered.

For existing customers, the price hike won't be kicking in until plan renewal, and there are options to downgrade the plan. Those who want to avoid using AI can downgrade the plan to the "Classic" or "Basic" Microsoft 365 plans.

Thankfully we can roll back to the "Classic Family Plan" without the AI features. But annoying that they automatically switched plans and I had to switch back. If I didn't see this article I'd be up for a big price hike when it renewed.

In a shocking change of pace, it's completed ahead of schedule! Was supposed to go until April

Yeah I agree. I have this fear at all levels of politics as things continue to get more and more toxic.

Sad to see, I feel like she did a lot of good such with walkability and cycling infrastructure. We can only hope someone similar comes along.

In September, Plante closed comments on her social media posts, saying her replies had been dominated by abusive language for months.

I wonder if this has something to do with her stepping down.

Valérie Plante will not be seeking re-election as Montreal's mayor, according to Radio-Canada sources.

Plante is expected to hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. to announce the decision.

Plante has served two terms as mayor of Montreal. She was first elected in 2017 after defeating incumbent Denis Coderre. She was re-elected in 2021.

She had previously said she would seek another mandate.

I've ordered a bunch this year. Some stuff I've gotten that I like:

  • Carbon bottle cages
  • Top tube bags
  • Hand pumps. I ordered 2, one of them worked.. but still significantly cheaper than a brand-name one. Also got a handheld pressure gauge for checking the pressure after pumping on the road
  • Glasses—Maybe dangerous in a crash.

Some stuff I'm waiting on:

  • Cycling computer (iGPSport BSC200). Wanted super basic functionality and am expecting it to be crap. Just a bit concerned with the data handling in terms of privacy.
  • Velocity, cadence, HR sensors. WAY cheaper than from Garmin/Wahoo, we'll see if they work well.

What are your favorites? Or just cheap accessories in general?
