Kansan here, Masterson probably doesn't believe it, but I also bet he's not entirely sure. There will be a small subset of voters who actually believe it because the American Heresy is strong. The vast majority of his voters/Kansans will literally never hear about this. And if they did, my guess is that most wouldn't believe it and most wouldn't change their vote if they heard about it.

Party loyalty is dumb.

FRCP Rule 23 really needs to be reformed. The reality is there likely shouldn't be a certified class in may of these cases, if the rule or the case law were followed. Instead, courts are approving dubious settlement classes, with limited resources to review anything, and consumers are getting minimal recovery.

That said, most of the time, the damages any individual consumer experiences is relatively low. Like in the above settlement, baring actual identity theft, you likely would never be able to prove actual damages to get something more than nominal damages. So you'd likely only ever be entitled to $10 in damages if you sued.

What you should be entitled to, and what should be available but isn't, is penalties. I'd be interested to see if folks ever had a desire to expand qui tam (private parties suing on behalf of the government) to expand penalties payments out of these companies, rather than doing these BS class cases.

On top of that, class administrators are absolutely a problem: https://www.vitallaw.com/news/antitrust-news-class-action-administrators-and-banks-named-in-suit-alleging-secret-kickback-scheme-that-suppressed-settlement-payouts/ald01e2f28b76305245e097ac15f43a74e28f

I need you to understand that when I want someone launched into the sun, it's not because it is easy, but because it is hard. I want to go to the extra effort and delta v necessary so that we can make it abundantly clear that you, evil horrible cretin, are worth the collective effort of thousands to personally be launched into the sun.

They aren't all designed to connect to your cold water line. In fact, most seem to specifically instruct you to connect to your hot water intake. You are right that most in the US have water heaters, but that doesn't mean that the machine's cycles will heat the water effectively for the full duration of the wash.

Maytag, Whirlpool, GE, and LG all recommend you connect to hotwater. Bosch (EDIT: Spelled this like the drug company not the appliance company) recommends cold. Depending on your machines cycles as well, the heating element may not get the water hot enough to make effective use of the pre-wash cycle. If your machine is connected to the hot water line and you purge the cold water from the line, you will see a more effective pre-wash (and thus more effective wash) than if you let it run cold.

Lost two family members to alcohol related causes, and a third had major health complications that were compounded by booze. I just see no need to get back into it.
