There's more methane in the atmosphere now. It probably smells like a fart.

Edited to add, I would probably freak out if I was hiking and looked up to find that in the tree. Kudos for your courage to stay and take the photo, and thanks for sharing it with us.
Sad news, but perhaps not as sad as you think. My baby was diagnosed about 6 years ago and is happy and healthy as ever. I hope yours has such luck.
