I don't know what excatly my question is, because of that I would like to explain my concerns and will see what you all think about it.

It seems like the american actions to come are getting more and more unpredictable or just more assaultive. Especialy the tech scene seems willing to ignore inconvenient laws of foreign countries they operate in. While I can adapt to that by simply use other services, there are a few fields no real option is available.

While having Android as an unavoidable OS for mobile devices (at least when one still wants to use payment services like paypal and google pay) my main concern is about Open Source or better saying the place where most projects are stored: Github.

Did MS said something regarding their intentions for github and europe? While Meta, Google, Ebay etc. for example published updated general terms and conditions and clearly communicated they are unhappy with a bunch of things, MS was not that open and did not take postion as far as I know.

How likely it is to become a problem for europe to access github/gitlab/bitbucket you name it and the hosted FOSS and open dource projects lying there?

I am not that deep into the rules of FOSS and open source, so please lighten my up If I missed something essentialy or provide information about initiatives.

Maybe out there poeple are already creating a clone from github to another archive like it is done with other american public domain data stated here? (Sorry in advance, its a german article. TLDR: its about saving the public domain data of america as it is done for ukrainian data too)

Jup, I watched it without sound first. After reading your comment, I rewatched it with sound. I missed nothing the first time ๐Ÿ˜… I hope when its time to heat the marketing machine for release there will be a much better choice...

Yes, but they dropped it withing these two month because a publisher or at least investor offered money to build a more sophisticated version of their game. And here is the alpha it seems.

You could create a fresh container, install docker, and create a new template image from it. This way the overhead of installing disapears. The overhead in resource usage for each docker installation would remain the same as before.

As mentioned in another reply, you could run several container in one lxc. For example with docker compose or podman. Since I have no experience with podman but with docker compose, docker compose is pretty simple.

But all in all, I prefer to install everything "bare metal" in lxc containers. The main reason is, I don't want to mess around with the extra layer of configurating ports etc.

Just to throw another option in: Lxc are containers too. And they are the other major option proxmox comes with.

It feels more like bare metal installations, but are more lightweight and share there ressources they do not use.

I never got why having Proxmox and one VM with several docker containers except I absolutly don't want to deal with installations at all.

On the other hands I wanted to learn about linux and the basics of handling proxmox.

Brotato is always a recommendation. Single player or co-op doesn't matter. Both modi are great

Well, if I need administration rights to downgrade, I better contact the admin for a fresh reinstall.

Thanks for your answer (^ . ^)/

Hi,

I am still an unexperianced linux user. But I encountered a problem that seems to be unfixable to me as a user.

My laptop is a tuxedo infinityBook pro gen2 with an intel iris xe integrated gpu in its intel i7 11370h.

At the moment it runs on ubuntu 24.04.

My Problem: My 3440x1440 display gets recognized, but its resolution does not work properly. It looks like the resolution is set to the correct size, but the monitor does not recognises it if this makes any sense. It means everything is to big and parts are invisible because they simply leave the panel.

My searches led me to following: It seams like the support for this resolution was patched into the driver only for 22.04 and 23.04. Since I updated the driver as stated on the intel site and nothing changed, I guess I have three options now:

  1. Reinstalling an older version of ubuntu
  2. Wait for a fix by intel
  3. Downgrade to an older version of ubuntu.

Atm option 3 feels like my way to go since I am not the admin of the laptop. Nor i want to wait.

I found tutorials to downgrading but also comments wich said, it is to avoid to downgrade.

Is anybody in here that has ever downgraded ubuntu or fixed my problem somehow?

Thx for reading.

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place, but I will give it a try.

My 10years old NAS quited working and I am looking for my opportunities. And since I am tinkering with my raspi and am generally interested in selfhosting stuff like jellyfin, joplin e.g. I decided to take the step to build my own Nas instead of buying another Synology device.

I would like to provide my needs but since I am not sure about it, it serms a bit difficult.

What I know:

  • 4 sata slots so I can use my actual drives and have the option to upgrade
  • Transcoding with jellyfin would be nice
  • having my own cloud storage is a long term aim
  • joplin server
  • maybe some terraria dedicated server could be cool also
  • low power usage and low noise are two criteria i would consider important since the energy prices only know one direction where I life

At the moment my favorite is this fanless board: https://www.minipc.de/catalog/il/2942

I would upgrade it with a pci card to get more sata slots or with a m.2 card which would do the same thing.

ECC compatibility feels unnecessary.

Is there anything that I forgott? Any better choices from european vendors? Ordering from america is not an option because it would take forever to arrive and the process to get it from the zoll is time consuming and would put taxes on top.

Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ˜Š

Edit: I just realised that M.2 M key SSDs are not supported by the slot... This reduces the options to chose from
