While it’s nice to see the return of Marathon as a universe, I don’t think this is the right way to do it. Yet another extraction shooter feels like a cynical cash grab, and I suspect it won’t fare well in an overcrowded market.

Nothing out of the ordinary for Nintendo, unfortunately. Even the blockbuster Wii Sports was an aberration that they had to be convinced about.
[Reggie] Fils-Aimé pushed for [Wii Sports to be bundled free with the Wii], and initially company President Satoru Iwata turned the proposal down: "Nintendo does not give away precious content for free."
The approach isn’t what became a joke, it was the absolutely unhinged way in which it was presented in that famous Ballmer stage appearance.
Yeah, seems like they tried to do a direct translation without accounting for the difference in the meaning of ‘pudding’ between UK and US English.
‘Shoots back up’ seems like a bit of an overreaction to a rise of less than 1%.
I’m sorry if you’re a fan, but there is no way that Shenmue was more influential than fucking Doom, or many of the other games on the list.
It’s a cool game with lots of innovations, but the most influential game of all time?? Absolutely not.
As someone who was dating (and found my wife!) online around that time, it was Tinder that marked a watershed moment.
Tinder gamified dating and made it accessible to everyone with a smartphone, which at the time was itself experiencing massive growth as a platform. The image of online dating changed almost overnight from awkward questionnaires and ‘lonely hearts looking for the one’ to swiping right and hookups.
Not that I agree with it, but isn’t this what other consoles have done for about a decade already?
Physical media for games is on its deathbed.
Many backwards compatible games on Xbox automatically get upgrades like increased frame rate, higher resolution, and HDR. They don’t charge for these, it’s just a feature.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo adds enough new value to justify paid upgrades, and we don’t even know how much they’ll cost, but on the face of it it’s a worse value proposition than what the competition has been offering for years.
It has mouse controls and a built in microphone. I think everything else is fairly incremental and the added value will depend on what’s important to different folks.
