Neither did I. I looked it up. I thought it was fake. Horrifyingly, it is not.

Corey Doctorow.

I think.

Spinning Silver, Uprooted, and the Scholomance Trilogy by Naomi Novik are all great. The first two are stand alone novels that retell fairy tales (Rumplestiltskin and Rapunzel I think). The Scholomance books definitely wrestle with femininity and what it means for the protagonist to be a strong woman.

Thanks for clarifying that. Yeah it's massive. There are so many solo games in it too.

There are a lot of $20-30 games in there that I've had my eye on for while. Rebel Scum, This Mortal Coil, Eco-Mofos. Just really good stuff.

And it's a great cause. I'm nowhere Minnesota but anything we can do to stop these bastards, even if it's buying and playing games, is a good start.

Vantage is a great solo card game but it's a bit expensive at $90. I really like it. Great game play loop and a fun way to use your cards while exploring. There's also one deck dungeon for a lot cheaper. It's not my favorite, but I play it in hotel rooms a lot because I can pack it easily.

This is a low barrier to entry solo game that is 1) free, and 2) it'll let you know if you like this style of gaming.

For solo RPGs, I have gotten a lot out of using the Mythic Game Master Emulator with all sorts of games. I'm working on Coriolus right now, but I have had a lot of fun with simpler fantasy games like Knave and Maze Rats.

Starforged is great, but i got that on sale.

This is great for solo gaming:

So is this, even though it's about PbP games

If you're willing to spend $10, itch.io has an amazing bundle on right now with a bunch of solo games:

Nice! I've yet to play BitD but it looks super cool. I'm down to play if we can make schedules work!

I'm interested. What game are you thinking?

In Thailand I paid 20x the amount of a citizen to enter a national park. Camping was free for citizens, but cost money for foreigners (I forget how much).

A resident hunting license in California costs $62.90 and non-resident is $219.81.

In Washington state a non-resident elk tag costs 10x what a resident pays.

In all cases, it's pretty similar.

Other countries already charge a premium for foreigners to visit their national parks. This is not new. People who live outside the country (whatever country) do not support park infrastructure with taxes and therefore should pay a premium to enter.

This is no different than a non-resident hunting or fishing license.

" "In a world full of noise, hear the love choir sing/Together in unity, we're reclaiming our wings," the singer croons. "So sign a petition/come join the fight/let's axe the taxes/bring wrongs to the right."

The song, "Uplift the Dream," is one of 20 tracks on an AI-generated album specifically designed to rally support for eliminating Ohio's property taxes. "

You are absolutely correct

Nutsack is preferable.

My girlfriend is be very interested in putting Blink (Amazon) cameras up around our property. I am not interested in paying Amazon to keep our security footage.

What I'd like to do is have motion activated internet connected cameras around the property that somehow send footage to a server (I don't know if that's the correct term, I'm kind of an idiot) that I keep on the property.

So I have three questions:

  1. is this the right forum to be asking about self hosting security footage?
  2. does anyone here have experience doing this and would they be willing to send some pointers my way?
  3. is this a feasible DIY project or am I better served paying for a service?

I've done a little digging into self hosting and it's not cheap, but I think it will be cheaper than paying a subscription. And safer too, which is rad.

Thank you all!
