In super short context its a far right ideology brought to mainstream politics by notable figures like Pinochet, Ronald Reagan and Margret Thatcher. Later embraced by Bill Clinton during the neoliberal takeover of the democratic party at the time when they turned their backs on the unions and people in favor of corporations and bankers. Neoliberalism differs from classical and social liberalism in that it is about freeing capital and not people. The article below explains all this in greater detail than I'm going to get into.

Faith is fragile. Any belief in something unprovable, based on no more than a feeling is on shaky ground in the first place. Some people base their entire personality on this thin ice.
