You're giving the wrong reinforcement for the wrong reason. You're afraid of what they may do in several years, so you're negatively reinforcing the good decision they're making right now. You should, instead, give them positive reinforcement for making good decisions so that they continue to make good decisions. What you're currently doing is discouraging them from making public statements about their policy changes.

Bro you can still buy the switch 2 if you've never had the first one, I promise
I do see your point, but these people absolutely should have a phone with a number. This phone should be used to make it appear as if you are never anywhere near protests. Create a paper trail that makes you look good
Ask yourself how you feel about this? How much would freedom, privacy, and anonymity be worth to you? Many realize the situation is dire, but are preoccupied with trying to survive the next rent payment, and are do not have the knowledge necessary to resist.
You don't need to bin your phone, you just need to start using it more strategically. Different phones for different things if you can, or move only absolutely necessary things to the phone and keep sensitive data elsewhere if not.
ETA: Actually I just read some comments and apparently yeah OP thinks you should bin your phone
Merteur? Martyr?
Right? It would be so much cheaper if we just used to the reinforcing steel to create thin tracks which we could put much more thermally efficient and eco-friendly wheels onto. In turn, we could carry exceptionally large loads of cargo or people over vast distances for a mere fraction of the cost (monetary) and a fraction of the cost (to the world) by creating long, highly aerodynamic vehicles capable of moving at ridiculously high speeds that would be uncontrollable for the average joe on the road.
Wait, haven't I heard of something like this before?
I can't remember if this was said to me or if I overheard it. Maybe I'm fabricating the memory entirely, but in any case, I recall a conversation where someone said almost exactly what you did in that last sentence. The reply was of course
"Well someone always gets hurt."
"What do you mean?"
"It costs someone money to put those bathrooms in."
Cue the "what the fuck did I just hear" alarms
Yeah but what does that have to do with the other posters sister saying it a while back?
Honestly a lot of people just don't realize how easy it actually is. They think it's something arcane and strange
Mr. President, that man walked in here with a big blue box, and three of his friends. And, that's the man he walked past. One of them is worth listening to.
I really like these mannequins. That's not my body type, nor would I wear those shirts. But someone with that body type looks good in shirts like that, so using those mannequins gives those people a much better idea of how it'll look on them
