While the communities you view may differ from my own experience, I would say that political and news themed communities have had an uptick in aggression.

My sense is that it is less about the overall population on Lemmy, but more about the polarization of news and political topics in our society. If there were truly a force actively trying to promote a culture war to prevent a class war, I’d say they are doing an effective job.

Outside of news/politics communities, postings, and (directly or indirectly) related comments (or commenters), I have not experienced an increase in outright negativity and rudeness.

Just like in any written dialogue, I think some expressions of humor can be written or received poorly, lending to a received sense of rudeness—and those moments sometimes serve as reinforcement of actual offensive aggression observed elsewhere, you dick /s.

Jokes aside, I do appreciate you drawing attention to it, as a reminder for each of us to do our part to express ourselves more clearly—allowing for discussion, disagreement, sarcasm, and humor while maintaining respect and civility.

And, of course, continue to block users and communities you find objectionable; though, I would challenge anyone to ask themselves if they are blocking to avoid offensive content, or are they blocking to avoid content which does not align with their views. Silencing different points of view, ultimately, only expedites the original problem.

In only the most playful and harmless spirit of sarcasm, it kinda reads like, “you are immortal if you make choices which do not kill you”.

And as an extension, “if you choose to survive long enough, that will eventually kill you, as well”.

It sounds like a complicated way of describing an instinctively non-suicidal existence.

That was on the corner of Electric Ave and Mason Street in Somerville, MA. I used to live very near there.

I also expect the community to form some sort of vigilance committee to get volunteers on the streets to do what the person who was recording doing, only hopefully with more presence.

I generally like Marvel film and TV content, but would prefer to have the studio pause for a while.

Not because of this Jonathan Majors thing, but because I still like Marvel, but have no interest in any of its new content.

I’d rather have nothing and build up a desire for it, than be flooded with content and have no interest.

It’s possible he may be in the same situation you are—trying to figure you out.

I just watched The Boys season 4, and it was real-life headlines like this that stood out as “too extreme” to fit in the ultra-violent fantasy world of real life fascist superheroes.

Yet, in the REAL real-world, this doesn’t seem out of place at all.

Tomorrow is Evacuation Day in Boston—we could totally make them all “leave by sea” in observance…

The truck also had one of those “don’t tread on me” decals, if it helps narrow it down.

Fairly thorough, if somewhat dated, list of Siri commands…

I wear my Stainless Steel Series 4 to bed. After updating to watch OS 10, I noticed it would not accept Siri commands for my HomeKit accessories.

I only wear it to bed, so I just chalked it up to an early bug and ignored it.

After loading each update between 10.0 and 10.1, the issue has persisted.

When opening the Home app on the the watch, it would just show the clean energy info at the top of the display and at the bottom it would indicate I haven’t set up any home accessories (I have tons, and they all work on my Ultra Watch and all other devices).

So, I decided to erase all content and setting and set up as new.

Now, the Home app isn’t even installed on the Watch, and does not appear in the list of apps in the Watch app on my phone.

I didn’t notice anything about HomeKit or Home app support being discontinued or unsupported in Watch OS 10 on older models.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have an antique desk which has three locks and a single key.

My key continues to work for one of the locks, but when inserted into the other two lock key ways, the key will not turn in either direction (will basically wiggle a millimeter or so in either direction, but does not start to actually turn).

I am a very amateurish lock picker—I can rake a basic lock or use a snap gun, but this lever/mortise lock is very different from anything I have tried to pick before.

I should mention that I used the working lock to confirm that the key fully inserts into the other two locks before attempting to turn the key.

I’ve tried looking up tools for picking this lock and watched some YouTube videos.

I am curious if anyone with experience picking this sort of lock might offer some advice on tools to get or improvise.

I’m including a photo of the key to help identify what might be needed.

Any advice is appreciated.
