Hi Everyone 👋

I’ve created an Italian-English language exchange XMPP room, and I am trying to get the community growing. If you’re a speaker of English or Italian and want to practice your skills in the other language, feel free to join 😎:

xmpp:italian-language-exchange@chat.disroot.org

I also created an experimental Mumble room that you can join here:

mumble://disroot.org/Italian%20%7C%20English%20Language%20Exchange

Ciao a tutti 👋

Ho creato una stanza di scambio linguistico italiano-inglese su XMPP e sto cercando di far crescere la comunità. Se siete parlanti di italiano o inglese e volete esercitarvi con l'altra lingua, sentitevi liberi di unirvi 😎:

xmpp:italian-language-exchange@chat.disroot.org

Ho anche creato una stanza Mumble sperimentale a cui potete unirvi qui:

I’m not the best versed in frequent flyer programs, so I’m looking for suggestions or tips regarding an upcoming flight.

I’ll be flying on Virgin Atlantic, but apparently it’s being operated by SAS? I don’t fully understand how that works. But, I’m given the option to log the miles with the Virgin Atlantic rewards system or the SAS one.

Does anyone have any tips as to which program is better overall, for specific things, has better benefits, etc?

I don’t have any points or status on either program right now.

Thanks for any tips!

This is awesome. I have a Cinnado D1 and almost stopped using it due to security concerns. Definitely trying this out.

Does anyone smarter than me know if the same vulnerabilities in Bitwarden highlighted in the this also affect Vaultwarden?

Or is Vaultwarden more hardened and less concerned with certain compromises like backwards compatibility etc?

Haven’t been diving too much into the study aspect of it lately because I started grad school last month, and that’s been taking up most of my time.

I did end up creating an XMPP public group for Italian-English language exchange and learning. It’s at https://xmpp.link/#italian-language-exchange@chat.disroot.org?join if anyone is interested.

Is anyone aware of a good open source app blocking app for Mac?

I'm having a hard time finding something that's not proprietary from a general search.

What I'm looking for is one where you can block apps for a set duration. For example: You're studying and you want to block access to chat apps, Ice Cubes for Mastodon, etc for, say, an hour.

I've found browser extensions to block specific websites and the one I use is great. But, looking for one for the apps themselves.

Is anyone familiar with old Sigma Mini-Wide II (Version 2) lenses?

This one appears to have some kind of oil or residue between—from what I can tell—the two front glass elements. It’s difficult to show exactly, but I’ve attached photos looking through mount end.

I’ve been searching for ways to inspect or clean the lens by dismantling it, but only found a video for the old Mini-Wide (Version 1).

From what I can tell, the front element isn’t removable on this second generation, but I wanted to reach out to the community for any thoughts, suggestions, or referrals to other groups.

Anyone having the issue on iOS where Voyager won’t load your upvotes and downvotes given on your profile page?

I’ve tried it on two different devices and neither are able to see that history.

It works fine for saved, comments, and posts. Just not those two.

The Glow Below (radiolab.org)

A call to oceanographer Edie Widder about a fish with a very odd immune system quickly becomes something else: a dive into the deep sea, into a world of brilliant light. But down there, the light doesn’t behave like light—it sparkles and glows, but also drips, squirts, and dribbles. Today, find out how creatures make the light and how they use it, from hunting and hiding to maybe even … talking, and hear about a series of mysterious moments where Edie goes from studying the creatures to becoming one of them.

This is a very uniquely American moment 😂
