My current backpack's zipline finally gave up it's service after almost 5 years of usage, and I'm looking for a new one. I haven't ever used a premium backpack per say, but after some searching I have found some good looking candidates for a daily commuter / shorter travelling backpack.

  • Thule Paramount 24L
  • Thule Paramount 27L
  • Fjällräven Räven 28
  • Fjällräven High Coast Foldsack 24

What are your experiences with Thule and Fjällräven backpacks? My backpack surely needs to be atleast 24L, because on my commuting days the backpack is filled up with a laptop, mice, headphones, and a gym bag (clothing + shoes)

I've been getting into self hosting, the fediverse, and federated blogging. I contacted freaking nomads and they suggested that I write about my experiences, so here it is! I hope you enjoy.

Comments aren't fully federated from the blog site, so I'm using mastodon as well.

I'm trying my hand at federated blogging! Here's a bit on some things that I got rid of and some things that I added while traveling as a nomad.

These are my AllBirds after 1 year of travel. I've been looking to repair the soles, but it doesn't seem that easy. I want shoes that ventilate well and are good for a lot of walking.

These started showing wear after 3 months of just city walking.

Any recommendations? I'm posting here because there isn't much on the shoe communities.

I want to go to Egypt, Cairo specifically, but I hate people getting all up in my face.

I've been to places where they approach you and bother you but will leave it you tell them you are not interested. I heard in Egypt they will insist even after you tell them to go away and I'm worried I will end up headbutting some Egyptian seller/scammer and get into very serious problems.

Should I not go?

We spent the whole day in Pyongyang and visited:

Mansudae Fountain Park
Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum
Juche Tower
Pyongyang Metro
Mangyongdae Children's Palace
Pyongyang Circus

Cost of a five-day tour to the DPRK: $1378.

The five-day tour included 4 flights (Vladivostok - Pyongyang - Orang - Pyongyang - Vladivostok), accommodation, meals, excursion program (Pyongyang and Chilbo), visa, insurance. Some entertainment is paid for additionally ($20 - circus, $7 boat ride, etc.).

So I had to cancel some travel plans some time ago, and I have a travel voucher with Air Canada. What would be the best way to search for deals to use my voucher on?

Air Canada's site has very few options to help find the best value, and other sites I've tried don't let you limit to a specific airline AND allow the flexibility options I want at the same time.

I am looking to fly to Japan from Europe and AirChina seems like the cheapest option by far. As I am not a seasoned long-distance traveler, I wanted to hear some experiences with the airline before deciding what to go for. Flying low cost around Europe worked fine for me so far. Would you recommend AirChina for an intercontinental trip? Thanks!

Today 5 years ago I was in Hebron, Palestine. I spent there a couple of days at a AirBnb. The story is quite fascinating and I recorded audio while talking to many local people there.

Many different things happened during my stay which you can hear about in the podcast episode. From the bus driver who drove me there from Jerusalem not wanting to let me go out because he feared for my safety then two 10 years old trying mug me while other teenagers escorting me to the military checkpoint. My confusion about the maps of palestine and Israel and explanations of it. I also visited a family who's house has been bulldozered by the #IDF several times and they kept rebuilding it. Their son just married the weekend before and on the way to the wedding the IDF stopped him and harassed him to give them money so they'd let him go to his wedding. Anyway there is much more in there than I can mention here.

So check it out https://jeena.net/pods/21

I also recorded a half an hour video back then walking around in the old city, you can watch it while you listen to the podcast: https://tube.jeena.net/w/3FhHLhdfxHpEJGdGPTA3uA

I've never had a credit card, but I travel often and have always heard rumblings about rewards and cash back or whatever, so I'm wondering if there is a card I would benefit from since I regularly purchase plane tickets.

I'm looking for personal experiences, primarily.

thank you!

Hi guys! I’m planning a 3-4 days weekend trip to Taiwan in early December. I haven’t booked a flight yet, so I can land in any other airport that isn’t Taipei, if the location is better. I’d like some more natural/countryside routes to do on a scooter if possible…not sure if away from the crowds is a possibility. My initial idea earlier this year was Taroko mountain/gorge…but yeah, I guess it won’t be in very good condition just yet. I saw that many parts aren’t planned to reopen anytime soon. What would be any good alternatives?

Thanks a lot!

The ads of this company called Airback that was making this backpacks where you could fit more stuff thanks to a built-in vacuum system appeared on my feed multiple times, but since the smallest bag they were making wasn't small enough to be used as free bag for lowcost companies I never really considered them. Now though I see there is a new model on their website called Airback Go that is made exactly for that purpose, and so I was wondering: does anyone here have actually tried it (or its bigger brother)? How is the quality of the backpacks? Is the vacuum thing something worth the price or it's more of a marketing strategy?

Meet Alden, an American actress who lived in China for 8 years and has now been in France for 2. She shares how American culture differs from Chinese and European ones, what shocks Americans about living in China, and the biggest advantages of being in Paris as an American. Enjoy!

She also shared what it was like for her and her kids to go back to the United States, how she and they adapted to different cultures.

Short summery of my experience:

  • Tip tip tip tip tip
  • Snorkel and dive Trips only 1 snorkel, eat fruit on Sandbank til next snorkel spot. All three stops are crowded asf.
  • Even trying to avoid tours you end up in a Tour Trip with same as above (snorkel eat snorkel and then back)
  • no beaches cause of low tide. High tide no visibility. You always require a friggin boat just to snorkel lol.
  • expensive tours
  • tiptiptiptiptip....
  • feel locked up. Almost all hotels huge walls, security, ... Not comparable to SEA where you get a bike and drive around looking for the next beach, breakfast, dinner etc. .

Feels like america or too many americans came here teaching a flawed tip mentality. Most Services werent even tip worthy.

I know ppl are struggling but thanks I can carry my own luggage and save me a dollar tip.

Never again, worst Island I have been to. Koh Phi Phi is a dream against this.

In general this was my first and last time africa. Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Indonesia etc so much better.

Maybe I did it wrong. This whole Trip felt like a scam, especially mnembe Island. 1000 boats chasing poor dolphins I told him to turn around. 200 Dollar down the drain and no other snorkeling available duo to tide. Heck not even diving after 2 lol
