I mostly agree with you. I don't know if you read the article, but the metaphor is that his powerlessness is being exposed on the world stage, so he inflicts his rage on those closest to him. The metaphor of domestic violence is off putting, but in the sense of striking out at those closest to you I suppose it's apt. I get what Marshall is trying to say even if it's awkwardly stated.
It was in Moonraker as well. The book opens with M using Bond to catch Hugo Drax cheating at bridge in M's club.
It's a great casual look, but I would always suggest getting rid of the sandals. Literally any other footwear. Particularly with a long dark pant. The eye is drawn to the feet because of the contrast.
