There is a word for the future you are describing: exterminism.

Sadly the world appears to be heading that way. This is the most bleak future described in one of my favorite books- Four Futures:Life After Capitalism

It's a quick read . .and highly recommended. https://www.versobooks.com/en-gb/products/59-four-futures

I was a batch 2 owner of the FairPhone 1, the FairPhone 2, the FairPhone 3+ . . . and just a month ago upgraded to the new FairPhone 6. And a guy who absolutely loathes Bluetooth earbuds. Yet I don't miss the 3.5mm jack for a simple reason . . . wired USB-C earbuds are a thing. I picked up a cheap set from JBL and never thought about the 3.5mm jack again.

Yes, I agree . . . they could have/should have stuck with it. But honestly . . it's no huge loss.

I run a FairPhone 3+ with /e/ OS and MicroG. CurvePay (https://www.curve.com/) runs perfectly and supports tap and pay.

It appears you are confusing moral absolutism with moral universalism. I stand by what I wrote.

You rather made my point - everything about morality is relative. There are no moral absolutes - it is up to your (and my) prospective. For the record, I do wrestle with my employment there . . . yes, we did stop many, many Russian tanks. But I also suspect other systems have been used in Gaza by the IDF.

As for speeding and taking out Musk - 100%, sign me up for that moral tradeoff right now!!!

Everything is relative to your prospective.

I worked 10 years for a major EU defense contractor. Mostly on civilian projects, but not exclusively. For many years, I hid my employer from acquaintances & friends - when asked, I would just say "I work in software". After I left that company, one of the anti-tank missile systems I had a very (very) small part developing started to tear the fuck up Russian tanks across Ukrainian farm lands.

I don't hide that history today.

With this news, now would be the perfect time to start the discussion of converting one of the 2 train tunnels into a road for EV's and electric lorries. Tailpipe exhaust is THE reason why cars today must be loaded into a train for the trip . . . EV's make that unnecessary.

If they are not going to invest . . . lets re-purpose part of it.

Never have I felt as old online.

I flew on it . . twice. Round trip NYC - London and home a week later. BA obviously.

At altitude (60,000 feet) the sky was black, not blue. And for any flat-earth'ers out there . . sorry, but from 60,000 feet you could see the curvature of the earth.

The only interesting physical difference I remember was the difference in acceleration departing JFK vs. departing from Heathrow. Out of JFK you are instantly over the Atlantic, so it accelerated from 0 mph to Mach 2.0 in one continuous push. Whereas departing Heathrow, you are over land until the English channel. So it accelerated down the runway like any other plane, cruised until over water, then it felt like it was taking off a second time, with a much longer acceleration push.

Where is the Kickstarter for this? TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

Could you imagine the uproar if a major airport parking garage collapsed because of a fire started by an EV? Yet with a diesel . . . not a single call in the press to "Ban ICE cars from multistory car parks . . ."
