My partner and I struggled with whether it was moral to have kids considering the future that we're facing. But I guess emotion won out over logic. I wouldn't judge anyone for not having kids, but I love mine more than I thought I could love anyone or anything.

I'd say it's a different set of values but maybe that's just my cultural perspective.

Tall Poppy is more about egalitarianism and modesty, where standing out or flaunting status too much is discouraged.

Whereas crab bucket is seen as being rooted in envy, jealousy, or a fear of losing status or position.

We call this "cutting tall poppies" in Australia.

I've always appreciated this story as an explanation for anyone who finds the concept foreign.

Music: Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Dropkick Murphys, The Mountain Goats

Comics: Sam Wallman's Our Members Be Unlimited

Movies/Theatre: Billy Elliot

TV: Firefly (feels kind of politically confused but that feels pretty accurate anyway.),

I unironically love the description of one of the most successful and influential works of art ever created as a musical you once saw because your friend was in it. That's as working class as it gets.

Wow I never knew this. That's fascinating.

Russia has considerable interest in Syria and likely isn't watching Israel's invasion into Southern Syria with glee.

A place near me does this. It's the worst. The spaghetti is chewy because it's dehydrated from being grilled.

Everything becomes more expensive once a market for it is created. Meanwhile local foods like murnong and kangaroo apples are free in Australia.

They've been trying this for decades in Australia. The so called red-unions.

The red unions have never won a bargaining agreement. Have never even won a seat at the table. They've never even won the right to have representatives in the workplace. They're openly sponsored by bosses to muddy the waters and divide actual unions. They are unregistered and undemocratic.

Despite the fact they've never done anything for their members they claim to have 18,000 members. Mostly anti-vaxxers.

This was heartbreaking. The doubt it puts in your mind even after seeing videos and photos of my kid being so happy at childcare...

Nvidia, the company that makes graphics cards you can't afford anymore and keeps vying for status as the world's most valuable company, is taking a page from Xbox's book and announcing a confusing change to its GeForce Now cloud gaming service that includes a monthly cap on the hours you can play games. As many people are saying in the comments to the announcement, maybe it's time to build a PC.

I will be honest that after writing the lede above I had to look up exactly what GeForce Now is, and reaffirm that it is not one of the many Nvidia things my graphics card installed on my computer. Like Stadia (RIP) and Microsoft's xCloud, GeForce Now can let you stream games your hardware might not be able to support. It has a bunch of tiers, some of which now have new names and new limits.
