don’t think using the term “trans people” is the problem. It’s a tool of language, and

It is supposed to be two word, just like that. Mashing them together is the issue.

They're not prefixes, they're abbreviations for transgender and cisgender

Honestly that just sounds confusing. It also feels akin to misgendering cis people to "teach them a lesson," which is rarely helpful and usually just gives permission to do the same back to you.

~~transpeople~~ is dehumanizing.

"Trans people" and "cis people." Otherwise it reads like, "blarglepeople" and "actual people."

The mashing together of the words was the language of the early anti-trans propaganda. It was successful enough that even allies continue to use it, unfortunately. Mostly because they've come up with new and worse ways to deny our existence while specifically addressing us.

I would say that it feels like blowing into the wind, but I know things like this can change, especially if 'teh youth" get it.

I like this. Seems like there aren't actually as many people willing to nazi in person as the armchair nazis thought.

My bad. Didn't look at usernames

~~Perhaps an edit is in order...?~~

Prison rape is never funny. It’s traumatic, violent, and life destroying.

Sea-lioning replies justifying rape will be blocked.

There's an interesting kind of poster that I've only seen here on Lemmy, the "why bother, it's not going to work" poster.

Why vote? It doesn't matter.

Why write or call your rep, they're in the pocket of blah blah anyway?

Why put a bumper sticker in your car? Performative BS, maaaan.

Etm etm...

How do you feel when you see Trump stickers everywhere?

How do you feel when you're in a neighborhood with pride flags everywhere? Is that different and better?

What about when you see Wellstone! sticker in deep red Midwest? A little hope that there are other people who haven't given up?

Show up! Speak out! Be visible! Live into the small moments of joy where resistance lives!

Lol! Calculator 2FA Sneakers vibe

Thanks! Plans continue apace, then.

Second that. Mu daily driver now. It doesn't have every bell and whistle but by that same token it is refreshingly lightweight.

... eating ice cream directly from the pint.

It always destroys spoons eventually, might as well use ones too sharp, too tinny, too light, the wrong shape, or with just the wrong bend in them already.

Edit: for all the head scratchers out there, it's a trait some of us neurodivergent folks have. Some forks or spoons or whatever are nice to hold, and some are actually upsetting to use.

I recently replaced an ancient laptop with a slightly less ancient one.

  • host for backups for three other machines
  • serve files I don't necessarily need on the new machine
  • relatively lightweight - "server" is ~15 years old
  • relatively simple - I'd rather not manage a dozen docker containers.
  • internal-facing
  • does NOT need to handle Android and friends. I can use sync-thing for that if I need to.

Left to my own devices I'd probably rsync for 90% of that, but I'd like to try something a little more pointy-clicky or at least transparent in my dotage.

Edit: Not SAMBA (I freaking hate trying to make that work)

Edit2: for the young'uns: NFS (linux "network filesystem")

Edit 3: LAN only. I may set up a VPN connection one day but it’s not currently a priority. (edited post to reflect questions)

Last Edit: thanks, friends, for this discussion! I think based on this I'll at least start with NFS + my existing backups system (Mint's thing, which is I think just a gui in front of rcync). May play w/ modern SAMBA if I have extra time.

Ill continue to read the replies though - some interesting ideas.
