This is a small piece of the slow and steady march to fascism and genocide we have been warned about for generations.
Trump is a borderline vegetable and is now essentially a populist figurehead for the de facto Christian and white nationalist leaders that he delegated power to: JD Vance, Russel Vought, Pete Hegseth, Steven Miller, and so on. These people are openly racist and gleefully fascist and the idea that they can’t put brown and queer people in real, Nazi-style concentration camps is dangerously shortsighted. They absoloutely despise us, and have dedicated their lives to figuring out ways to subvert our democratic system to get back us for daring to reject their authoritarian way of life.
The surveillance state is built. Our devices are being turned against us. All the data they need to find and imprison enemies of the fascist state is there for the taking.
When you see these capabilities being sold as features, ask yourself why can’t these “features” be turned off?
They're well into the dehumanization of others that paves the way to mass murder. They have best-selling books that portray everyone outside of their in-group as non-human murderous terrorists who must be pre-emptively killed for the salvation of humanity, and the Vice President has endorsed this idea. They are speaking in public about how Democrats are demons and antichrists that must be exterminated, and the guy leading the "antichrist" paranoia is the same one who owns the tools of mass surveillance. They have long spoken about the need to "eradicate" trans people. The USA is already at least half way through the ten stages of genocide, and it's progressing rapidly down the list, with people being dragged out of their homes and workplaces every day and disappeared. The fascists are not going to stop voluntarily, and they won't step down because of an election. They must be stopped by a mass campaign of non-cooperation and resistance that makes it physically impossible for them to progress their program.
Again, to all the fuckwits chanting both sides; this is what the Nazis declared they were going to do all along.

Yeah. I remember telling someone this kind of thing (and they were in several at-risk groups) when they were busy lecturing me about some minor point and how since I didn't tick any "intersectional" checkboxes, that I should just sit down and shut up and listen to those that know better, and oh, by the way, they might even vote for Donvict just to show people like me all about my privilege (?!). Or yeah, vote for Jill Stein or the equivalent, because fuck you is why.
Or words to that effect. I've had conversations much like that online and IRL in the past ten years or so. I've seen others lectured like that in nearly the exact same way by some of these ridiculous scolds, often aimed at people that probably were 95% or more in agreement with them, but not edgy enough or whatever, so therefore, they were put in the dreaded "liberal" box by the self-professed uber-leftist (or even self-declared communist in some cases). Oh, no, not...the liberal label!
Sigh.
I'm sure all that high dudgeon aimed at allies will be quite comforting as their real enemies make their intentions quite clear and start carrying out those plans...they can tell themselves that they were absolutely right to lecture people on the proper terms and language to explain how the liberals are basically the same as Republicans and that Democrats are the flip side of Republicans...

I mean, yeah? Every day they waltz into a room full of genocidal maniacs wielding the world's most powerful military and most widespread surveillance networks - a room which I would be immediately attracting suspicion by just attempting to enter. These power-hungry maniacs are laughing in our face because they know people will shrug and roll over as they write the "Keep Power Forever" bill.
I know most people will roll their eyes at this, but think for a second -- our laws have been overturned, our way of life has been destroyed. We're living in the husk of a society that is literally being bulldozed, and you expect poor, disabled, and otherwise vulnerable USAmericans to shrug and say "well they can't legally do anything"? While our lives are destroyed?
The truth is, Democrats' real chance to stop this was in the decades before, during which they deliberately did not act, with leadership and politicians alike choosing to enrich themselves by bending to corporations; allowing the standard of living in this country to become absurdly intolerable; fostering wealth inequality worse than that of pre-Revolution France; watching us die while keeping this dog-and-pony show going to keep us all distracted.
Democrats will not stop this. They had their chance and did nothing.
It's up to us to save ourselves.

I'm not sure this is legal because if a man and a woman both like men and you only surveil the man who likes men, then you are selecting him for surveillance because of his sex which is a protected class
As if rules matter to theses people anymore. All that matters to them is getting to the Zyklon B as fast as possible because the bible told them to kill the gays.
Yep. They are mad as hell about the gay marriage thing. Prior to that happening, they were mad as hell about gays even being acknowledged as existing, w/o being arrested and imprisoned.
So they set about creating trans as a wedge issue. I don't think the bathroom thing worked as well as they thought it might, so they really, really focused on the "men in womens sports" thing and kept hammering on that. They still keep hammering on it.
So they'll start with trans, but they don't want to stop there. They want to roll back all advances for gays, starting with marriage first and onto shoving everyone back in the closet and policing content creation.
If they succeed there, they'll move onto things like compulsory xtian attendance and reversing scientific knowledge here, at least in public schools. They are very very butthurt about adherence to their little book club dropping 1% point or more year over year...they are still butthurt about things like the Scopes Monkey Trial, FFS and think their stupid text should supplant real science, especially on matters like basic biology.
