Advertising should be illegal outside very specific instances, imo.

When a person needs a thing, they should seek it out.

That we're constantly bombarded by marketing is not spoken of enough as the tragedy that it truly is.

I think it's like music; everything has been democratized and splintered by access. So now there are only a tiny few truly global music stars and countless microscenes; to some people Oli Sykes is the most famous man in their universe but tons of normies have never even heard of him or his band. I think same deal has happened to porn, especially with the rise of "farm to table" amateur porn/camgirling. More fish in smaller oceans.

I am already subscribed to a number of the obvious music-related communities here on Lemmy, but most of them are pretty minimally-active. So I am left wondering, are there some communities in this space I'm merely unaware of or is this one of this segments where Lemmy currently has a void of options or interest?

So if you are a part of or know of any music-related communities, no matter how tangential really, please share with us here. Anything from self-promo communities for artists to album review to industry discussion, whatever, I'm game.

Subnormal Dives by ByoNoiseGenerator is a deathgrind jazz fusion album.

Not quite 30 seconds songs, but the longest song is 3:25 and most average around 2 minutes-ish.

I think folks are just listening to the wrong jazz!

Here's a few modern jazz or jazz fusion song recommendations from me worth checking out:

'Ramen! Yes!', 'XYZ', and 'Balloon Pop' by Hiromi's Sonicwonder (also credited separately as Hiromi and Sonicwonder)

'Desire', 'Knowledge', 'Prologue', and 'Fists of Fury' by Kamasi Washington

and it's bossa nova which I guess is technically samba not jazz, but I say close enough to still recommend 'I Took the L' by John Roseboro

Bonus recommendation if you're open to heavy music (this is death metal jazz fusion!):

'Eb (D#)', 'IQ69Exaltations,' and 'deBroglieNeverExisted' by ByoNoiseGenerator

And in most cases you can't mod your games at all on console, which is basically a free way to vastly increase the shelf life of any title.

PC forever.

Ah, gotcha. Heard of it, never seen it.

What are all those blue & white squares on the top right? I recognize every other logo, but I have no clue what that's supposed to be.

Hey folks, it's June now, which means it's officially summer playlist season. I know you got 'em, I'm sharing mine here, so drop your summer gathering/summer listening playlist in the comments so we can all check them out and have the best summer vibes.

Even if there's just like four of us in here, that's enough to share and find cool shit to listen to, so drop your list if you've got one.

Happy listening, folks!

Gotcha, just read it. Thanks for the explanation. Suck that there are some decent-ish "normal" communities there, but it's not like there's a shortage of alternate options, so I guess it all sort of pans out in the end. Cheers.

Weird. All of my interactions with hexbear have been in novelty communities like !music, so I hadn't seen any of that. I'm aware of the lemmy.ml - tankie connection, just hadn't heard that about hexbear. Interesting.

I tried to join a hexbear community (!music@hexbear.net) and found I couldn't access it via my Sopuli account. I gotta be honest, I don't keep up with all the Lemmy/federation drama, but can anyone give me a quick summary of why we aren't federating with hexbear?
