No matter what you do there is always some problem with it. I saw a post about fireworks and even though they are right about them it just sucks because some of my fondest memories are of setting fireworks off with my dad.

Im reaching a point where I can not care about any more things. I should go vegan but I just can't bring myself to care about something that isn't even a human when there are so many that are suffering. There is only so much that I can as a single individual do to make things better. There are so many things that I know I should care about and want to do something to help but Im barely avoiding just shutting down like I did a few years ago. it feels like I simply have no more empathy left to give.

I watch a movie and I pick up on all the obvious bullshit messaging it has and just want to stop watching. I feel like I lost the ability to just turn my brain off and enjoy something.

There are a bunch of other things too but I feel like the point is probably stupid anyways.

You don't have to care.

No matter what you do, someone will think poorly of your actions. You can't please everyone.

Prioritise the things you personally care strongly about and leave the rest to the people who care strongly about those things. If that makes you a bad person, then maybe embrace that you're not perfect, and neither is whoever criticizes you for it.

Be true to thyself and don't be a knob to others.

A nice and simple philosophy.

We are not well equipped for the world we've created. I hope you can find something real that matters specifically to you. Apathy is death. Good rant.

Thank you. I try to keep up on the things that affect me but the amount of noise is deafening. been trying to get more into my photography again because it helped before.

It's OK to acknowledge the impact of things you do while still doing them. We live complicated lives which often contradict our morals, and that's OK. It's likely that a 'perfectly moral' life is not feasible for most. We can take the good with the bad.

So enjoy your fireworks and bonfires, despite their impacts. Don't feel guilt for what is just existing without extra hardship. Maybe make morally good decisions when you have the energy. It's also good to continue learning, so you can discover easier ways to live a better life with less bad things behind the scenes.

One minor trick is to use "local = better" as a rule. This is because local means fewer steps to you which means fewer chances for immorality, and an easier time spotting the immorality.

Thank you. Yeah I do my best to support local businesses where I can. And even ignoreing the moral reasons connecting with the community is nice. We have a few local bookshops and it's great.

I feel you. I'm currently limiting my news exposure to just scanning the headlines/Lemmy in the morning and not listening to the radio during the day.

The idea being to stop feeling constantly overwhelmed by the amount of bad 💩 going on right now and save some spoons for stuff that matters to me.

It could be possible you are depressed. Have you thought about talking with a therapist?

Its extremely likely. Both of my parents are diagnosed bipolar with a mix of extra things sprinkled in. I've thought about it, but being an American closeted transwoman I don't trust that everything would stay private.
