As for TV there is for example arte.tv , a french-german TV channel, which often has good documentaries

Can you recommend any movies, series and TV streams that are lesser known?

The amount and quality ARTe can archive with the little money they get is amazing

For shows and movies, see the discussion here: https://lemmy.world/post/27460253 (instance-agnostic link: https://lemsha.re/https://lemmy.world/post/27460253)

Justwatch also has a "made in europe" category: https://www.justwatch.com/de/made-in-europe

Or do you mean streaming services?

Oh cool, thanks for the links! That's what i meant, not streaming services.

MHz Choice has a lot of mostly European shows with English subtitles, could be a good way to discover some shows.

I believe you have to pay for video-on-demand but the linear channel is free.

PS But checking their site details, MHz Choice is owned by Vimeo, which is a US company.

I'm conflicted; the company is US but the content is almost all European.

Vimeo is one of the very few places on the internet where one can get some DRM free content.

Yes they are US based, but I am willing to cut a bit of slack to companies whose business model I don't completely hate. Like Bandcamp.

Yes, a less awful or even decent US business is better than an awful US business.

Thanks for the recommendations! I have seen one icelandic movie so far, which i can also recommend:
101 Reykjavik (Iceland) It's a dark comedy about a slacker named Hlynur living with his mother in Iceland's capital, whose aimless life is disrupted by an unexpected and complicated romantic entanglement.
