It was really all about building super complicated pages with <table><tr><td><img src="x"></td><td colspan=2><img src="y"></td></tr></table> stuff before CSS

This is why my pirated copy of Dreamweaver was my most prized possession for nearly a decade.

[–] Shadow@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Dreamweaver was the shit back then.

I spent so long working with protocols over RS232 that hex and binary operators became like a second language.

I remember a grad student was doing some frontend work on it around 2015 and it blew his mind that we'd store 8 bools in a byte and call it a "status flag".

In concept sure, in practice probably in speaking??? Why do you need to understand a base 16? Greetings good merchant, may I buy #1A Bananas?

[–] Sailing7@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

Took me half a minuite of thinking... You are asking for 26(Base10) Bananas, right?

my professor got pissed at us once flunking our exam in C types and he was telling us to ask questions if we don't know "for example, how to convert from binary to hexadecimal" from that point onwards the class started asking questions out of fear of being critiqued. This meme is very relatable.
