Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

FYI even if you have been vaccinated you may still need to get a booster.

https://www.livescience.com/health/viruses-infections-disease/are-you-protected-against-measles-do-you-need-a-booster-shot-everything-you-need-to-know-about-immunity

TDLR: if you were vaccinated in the 1960s you may need a whole new course of boosters. Also, if you were vaccinated before 1989, you may need one additional shot, since the 2-shot model wasn't recommended by the CDC until then.

Stay safe out there folks.

Yep, had my 1st measles shot in the mid-60s, a booster in '74, and now this year found (via a blood test) that my immunity had waned to a point that another shot was needed. Got it. Five stars, no pain, highly recommended.

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No side effects like the Covid shots?

[–] FirstCircle@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I had the Covid shots too. They all had powerful side-effects. My whole life, I've never been able to catch measles. I didn't get sick from Covid. I probably won't die from measles now either. That's right, they took away muh Freedumb!

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago

That’s the primary effect not the side effects ;) Was just curious because covid shots are the only vaccines in my adult life that have given me side effects

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 7 points 11 months ago

I got my booster right after RFK got sworn in. Also polio, monkeypox and COVID of course.

Good luck everyone

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 17 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Good.

Let them die, they are getting everything they wished for. Would have been so nice if they'd only had the brains to recognize what they were wishing for but alas, here we are.

I feel nothing for you beyond that you're a cancer on this world and it's immune system just kicked in

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

These people were tricked into believing vaccines are bad. They're victims (stubborn and idiotic ones)

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

How many times do you have to get bit by a dog before you stop trying to save it?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 months ago

They're victims that willingly make others victims too. These are victims in the same way that a sexually abused child, when grown up, will do the same to other children.

For sure, hit the big organizations that spread this dangerous nonsense, but don't treat these people like innocents, they're not. They are actively causing a lot of harm

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 17 points 11 months ago

It's their freedom as Americans to get the measles.

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

Honestly I only feel bad for the children. Every single one of those parents had a decision to do the best for their child and chose not to do this. So I feel bad for the kids, but hope (very thin sliver) that some of those parents wake up and realize that they fucked up.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Skimmed the article and had to back glance at the Moscow School District. Had to double check I was still in Kansas. No wonder Dorothy was so damn confused

[–] gndagreborn@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

PSA, if you are worried, have your physician order an antibody titer. It essentially measures the amount of anti-MMR antibodies in your blood to ensure you are immune.

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The saddest part about this is that the people telling others not to vaccinate aren't going to suffer from this because they know they're spreading bullshit and thus already vaccinated themselves.

I see a lot of folks on the left making fun of maga supporters for being against vaccines etc, but I’ve only ever met anti vax leftists…. I’m not against vaccines I believe the science but it’s less of a left right issue than we believe it to be….

I can, however, say that I understand any concern or trepidation folks in the US have because of our fucked up healthcare system, the astronomical cost of healthcare even many can not afford preventative care, would lean folks to believe less scientifically proven methods and non traditional health care.

In the United States if you get sick, you lose everything.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

It's more known as a right-wing thing these days because of Covid, but the OG antivaxxer stereotype was the hippy mom who didn't want to put "chemicals" in their children because 'big pharma' is evil, and don't you know vaccines cause autism?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

they all moved to the right wing. update on your info.

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I never saw this as a right vs left thing, just a stupid vs smart thing. But I can see why people would assume anti-vaxxers are right wing.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Because anyone left of center is a socialist or communist according to the academics

Which is odd because every other democratic nation in the free world has a form of HEALTHCARE FOR ALL that far exceeds ours , find one and that is worse? Cuba probably has top secret doctors helping us who knows

Movie plot: submit to ai for scenes and dialogue: a young phd who almost failed his exam is in love with the idea of meeting aliens, but his wild ideas and drunken equations prove correct as we meet the protagonist

Edit: caps text

Edit I have seen and interacted with a little bit of ai

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I bet they're having measles parties so it does actually spread thinking it'll just go away like a cold

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Literally seen a news report on this and one parent of a child that died said it was all good cause at least his kid wasn't autistic. These people are straight evil.

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eugenics in action. Another 1930s holdover like Nazis.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 points 11 months ago

Bro, as someone living here I hope you're wrong. Sadly though, reality doesn't match up with my dreams.

[–] jackyard@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I didn't know arstechnica wrote articles outside of tech stuffs. Apparently the measles case was on their front page as their most viewed article.
