She was excluded last year too, nothing really changed. She's as bad as Georgescu, from a somehow different angle, along with being openly antisemitic. I guess Europeans saw her in the EU Parliament.

Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
(This list may get expanded when necessary.)
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].
Isn’t there a law against being a nazi in Romania? Why is she not behind the bars? If she’s not behind the bars why is she barred from running exactly?
There is a law, but it's poorly worded, so it regularly fails (needs fixes). The constitutional court is not a criminal court.
We should have barred our far right for the same reason.
She's the perfect political distraction, a loud moron who spouts some of the vilest and downright stupidest things a human being will ever hear. She deserves to be kept out of politics because she is a moron, her political leanings needn't even be included in considering her capabilities. Either way, it is a sad time in our history, the proliferation of Right-Wing ideas (and I'm talking about the hateful shit) in general should never have happened again.
Did I miss it or did the article really not give a reason for her being barred from the election?
The CCR argued that her public discourse, including opposition to Romania’s European Union and NATO memberships, made her unfit to uphold the constitutional obligations of the presidency.
She had been excluded from last years election for the same reason. So this isn’t new.
Like the other far right ones, she wants to take a big dump on the constitution and then set it on fire. That's incompatible with holding the presidential office and others (including military) where the oath requires to protect the constitution.
https://www.constitutiaromaniei.ro/art-82-validarea-mandatului-si-depunerea-juramantului/
(1) Rezultatul alegerilor pentru funcţia de Preşedinte al României este validat de Curtea Constituţională.
The Constitutional Court validates (or invalidates) the election result.
among others, the president swears to respect the Constitution
I didn't see anything about a violation of election law. All it said was she was known for pro-Kremlin, and anti-Semitic positions. I hope there's more to this story or Romania is going to damage the credibility of their elections.
This may have been strictly procedure, since she was already banned once, from running in the first election run. But yes, when she was banned initially, the reasons were extremely vague ( russian interference and whatnot ) and haven't gotten any better.
