Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Over the past month, VA has cut 2,400 positions, and VA Secretary Doug Collins said this week the department plans to slash more than 70,000 jobs. The goal would reduce VA staffing to 2019 levels, three years before the historic PACT Act expanded benefits to more than a million veterans sickened by exposures to toxins.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has repeatedly promised that the quest to shrink the federal government will not harm veterans or their care.

“We’re going to make the department work better for the veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors,” Collins said this week.

But VA employees from across the country said the cuts and a climate of fear are already hurting veterans.

How the hell would that have even be possible? Fuckin' republicans and their fuckin' magical thinking. Jesus fuckin' christ

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It never was. They want the cuts to force veterans to seek care elsewhere so they don't have to pay. If they die waiting all the better.

Suffering is a Republican hallmark.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah to be clear. I don't mean the people who planned this. This was always the intent. I mean the people who bought the lie and voted for it. They're the ones out here doing magical thinking

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Probably the same kind of people that think that people that just happen to have money (little d and fElon) are smarter.

Veterans are overwhelmingly Trump supporters. So they won, they can get over it.

I'm a patient at the VA and half the dipshits waiting for an appointment there are still wearing their red MAGA klan hoods.

I don't fucking get it. I was active duty during his first term, and he fucked us over every chance he got.

Anyone who served and supports Trump is a special kind of stupid beyond the standard Trumpanzee idiot.

I suspect it's a brand thing with insecure men (and the women infected with the same toxic nonsense). I mean, what is the alternative, be a total pansy and vote for Democrats? /s

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Feel free to tell them directly how they're getting fucked, in a polite way of course. Idk if anything will wake those people up from their alternate reality though.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've gotten into a couple arguments, but it's like talking to a brick.

They really do live in a complete fantasy.

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's sad. Even worse when reality confronts their fantasy and they keep choosing fantasy.

It's hard to come up with a good analogy. It's kind of like someone watching a crocodile bite their leg off and then hobbling back to the same lagoon so they can get bit again. Then, instead of blaming themselves or the crocodile for the situation, they blame black people.

Please refrain from lumping all veterans into one group. I'm a veteran that relies on the care I receive from the VA and I am not a trump supporter. Just as thinking all the liberals and minorities that live in red states deserve the suffering they didn't vote for is barbaric, so is this

[–] nevemsenki@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm from Hungary. I have no love for Orban and did what I could to depose him (for all thr nothing it availed to), but I also welcome all the retribution we get for allowing him in power for so long, even if it hurts me personally as well.

Respectfully, despite what your former despot has done, I do not believe you deserve punishment for his actions. That is collective punishment and is a war crime.

Any promises by republicans or related to republican policies are lies.

I’ve gotten VA newsletters where he has had to say rumors aren’t true and nothing is going to impact benefits, and they are completely unconvincing.

I watched the employee town hall on Friday,

Basically leadership doesn't know anything but plans to comply with the orders by the coup.

We lost a probationary developer at our site who was the only one maintaining a program that helps with clinical studies. And we also have a hiring freeze right now...

It's finally habbening.
