“BD” refers to Franco-Belgian comics, but let's open things up to include ALL Euro comics and GN's. Euro-style work from around the world is also welcome!

Recommended shops/apps to buy digital European BD/GN/Comics? (lemm.ee)

Is there any community-recommended shops or apps to buy digital copies of European BD/GN?

Is there any shop or app that sells either legal, non-DRM'd copies or copies where you can easily remove the DRM? I ask because of the Dark Horse Online complete fiasco announced a few days ago.

Reminder to never, ever buy DRM'd digital media where you cannot remove the DRM, especially if the DRM requires online access to work.

Hoo, yeah, I see your point. Unfortunately, it seems like this is how property is trending, with consumers only being able to rent their content, not actually own.

So, I haven't used these sources myself, but I've put together some sellers and links in our FAQ page.

Or, "Europe Comics" was another online seller with traditionally high-quality content, but as of two years ago, they stopped dealing directly with consumers. You can still purchase their ongoing content evidently, but through sub-retailers, FWIW.

Thank you for your reply D'oh! Sorry that I didn't notice there was a community FAQ and a resource page! That's so rare for Lemmy communities, so congratulations are in order. It looks like either library apps or subscriptions are going to be my main options in terms of digital content.

I also found https://globalcomix.com/ may be worth exploring further, although it seems to be mostly indie comics and I'm not sure about whether there is DRM. What's interesting is that they allow filtering titles by country.

I suppose that Kindle would also have been an option until earlier this week when they disabled downloads, although maybe people will figure out other ways to remove the DRM after that change.

Btw, not sure what's your native language, but sometimes when a work you want to read doesn't appear in your preferred language, you might just find that a fellow fan / hobbyist has "scanlated" it, word to the wise.

Oh, that's cool to know. I hadn't realized that. I only speak a couple of languages well so far, but neither of them are major BD languages, haha. I plan to start learning French again sometime.

Edit: I take back what I said about global comix being mostly indie comics. They seem to have everything from major publishers to single person, free comics. Interesting. To search by country, click the "Explore" link on the site.

Good lord, I can barely speak a little bit of French & Castellano. Could it be you're more of a Slavic-speaker?
