Okay so if members of his party are literally afraid for their lives, at what point do we put an end to this? Why the fuck are these elected officials acting like nothing can be done about these circumstances?

How do you think the rest of the country and the WORLD fucking feels!

They are scared for their lives if they do something, yet they are the only ones who can stop it and are too cowardly to do so.

Incredibly aggravating.

Cowards is absolutely the right word.

They want to be hailed as leaders and serious people but they lack the fortitude or bravery required.

They're all cowards and no one should ever forget it.

I am hoping for a 9 Thermidor

tl;dr Robespierre and his buddies had been doing a Reign of Terror and guillotining all sorts of his former allies in the Assembly for a bit, when Robespierre gives a speech to them and says (basically) "I know some of you in here are counterrevolutionary traitors, and I will have your heads chopped off too soon enough, but I haven't decided who yet, so you better all be really nice to me." That makes a bunch of people in that legislature say (basically) "This crazy little asshole is going to kill us all one by one if we let him, I hate you almost as much as I hate him but let's work together and stop this already." Within a few days, Robespierre was dead and France had a new government, which was pretty terrible and got overthrown by another government (which was also pretty terrible, and etc., because French Revolution), but it chopped off fewer heads than Robespierre's did.

Keeping the other branches of government in check is point of the US Congress.

So far, this Congress has enjoyed extraordinarily high quality of life (funded by taxpayers) for relatively easy work.

They have also played a big part in allowing things to progress to this point.

Now it's time for them to step up and do their fucking jobs.

If they feel threatened, then I would suggest they get the help of a government agency equipped to protect them. If that's not enough, they have plenty of money to hire supplementary guards.

As a representative of your constituants you should be willing to accept that risk on their behalf.

I don’t know much about this. But I do remember a time the GOP did not criticize Trump before the threats started.

What changed? In my personal view nothing. Either the fear is overstated or used as a crutch for advancement in the gop. Maybe I’m wrong?

I would take this as the moment they fell in line:

The train carrying members of Congress to a Republican retreat in West Virginia last month struck a garbage truck that had entered a railroad crossing after safety gates had come down, according to a new report released Wednesday.

Authorities identified the person killed as Christopher Foley, 28, of Louisa County, Va., one of two passengers inside the truck. The other passenger, still unidentified, was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with critical injuries.

The truck's driver, also still unidentified, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, according to Madeline Curott, public information officer of the Albemarle County, Va., police department.

The driver of the truck was transported by ground in serious condition. President Donald Trump had said Wednesday afternoon that the driver of the truck had been killed.

Marshall later told MSNBC that he first tried to help the deceased victim but "couldn't find a pulse, so we started CPR and worked on that person for several, several minutes, and [it] just didn't go real well for that gentlemen."
