Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

One of the intresting things we are taught about unconscious bias, is besides people actively discriminating agianst outer groups, most people simply reserve postive emotions for inner groups leading people to be kinda like this without really realizing it.

So remember don't just reconsider your views on natinoalism, but consider everyone else probably has unconscious prejudice agianst others, so don't just attack them for thier views but at least try to educate them.

Then if they continue to be willfully ignorant shrug....

In related news: My local group totally doesn't have an accent. Everyone else does!

[–] kspatlas@kbin.earth 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it's true, the true English accent is Scottish English with a hint of polish influence

[–] DeaDvey@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

No, I'm pretty sure it's Black Country that has no accent.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like most Midwestern Americans believe this unironically

I'd go further and say most Americans outside the Southeast US think they don't have accents. This is the only time the Southeast has ever topped the charts on anything involving intelligence.

[–] static_slabs@feddit.rocks 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right, but that's just post-hoc rationalisation by Americans crying that their "culture" breaks down to authoritarianism, slavery, and genocide.

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

? Inner / Outer group psychology isn't an American thing...it's a human thing. It's seen in slightly diffrent ways across the world but is seen universally

This is what our prehistoric ape ancestors on the western plains thought of our prehistoric ape ancestors on the eastern plains half a million years ago. .... stupid eastern plains apes >:(

I mean, I like the food in my country, but I would never want to do without the cuisine of foreign countries. Or the culture, or whatever else. Friends πŸ’•

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's what's so great about American 'cuisine'. Everybody comes here and opens up restaurants. We got it all.

There is a reason we are all fat yo.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Sure, but you shouldn't think that the "ethnic" restaurants in the US are serving what is actually served in their home country. Just about every restaurant tunes their recipes for local tastes. And, since the US is more insular than most countries, the recipes are adjusted a lot more for Americans than for people in other countries.

Having lived in like 7 different countries for long periods of time I'm convinced there is no objective measure of the quality of food, art, or music.

There are things that have measures if high quality in Japan that American would find absolutely foul, and the same in the other direction.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hard to fall for this thinking when you have no favorites.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you don't have a favorite cheese? heretic!

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I use the cheese that is appropriate for the dish.

Even for something like a cheese tray its based on expectations and variety; a plain, spicy, and aged.

I am surrounded by people who have preferences but I will happily go with whatever is cheapest without sacrificing quality.

Hah, my country stole all the best food. I am British.

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Imagine having access to most of the world's herbs, spices and meats, yet the only culturally significant meal of you country is fish and chips.

[–] dariusj18@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I think that is the point. They just went and conquered places with better food and made them part of their empire, so the food then became theirs too.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

You have clearly never eaten a British curry then

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What did you do with it? Because you sure as fuck havent cooked any of it.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

We have loads. Curry, kebab and Chinese are probably some of the more common ones.

[–] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is silly and I love it.

[–] Bad@jlai.lu 5 points 1 year ago

I am silly and Iβ€―love you.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 year ago

Anationalism, yay!

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Hot take: if someone says "my country has the best ____" and has not ever lived for an extended period in another country, you can just ignore anything they have to say.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Australia has the best Vegemite.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Canada has the best Poutine.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

My country has the best people that come from my country. Fight me.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even that might not be true, my experience with people from my country is all the best ones go live somewhere else lol.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Fuck.....

You make a valid point.

My country has the best anthem written in our language then.

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

We were deeply brainwashed to believe we were the best and discovered the world. Never were we enlightened about we being at fault for bootraping the slave market across the Atlantic. Ups, a silly omission in our history lessons.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

Now if one of them has a recent genocide, I'm voting for the other one.

[–] gwilikers@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Nationalism is a archaic ideology that has outlived its usefulness in the modern era of globalised capitalist plundering and climate catastrophe.
