I think that was more because of Hexbear going down?

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 3 points 10 months ago

Has to be, no way SDF has 5 million comments.

Good point!

Got damn that's a drop, I didn't even think SDF was that busy lol

Whatever it is, as a SDF member, I curse the day I decided to support them. I paid SDF because I believe in paying for what I use, and it turns out to be the worst service I use by a long shot. Why I didn't open my first Lemmy account on a more reliable instance for free, I'll never know...

SDF should be more reliable, they existed since like the 80s and have hosted tons of things from Public access UNIX to BBS to web hosting lol

Whatever they once were, they suck now.

I don’t really know, but the vibe I get from SDF is “this is my homelab, you can play on it if you want, mostly am I working on getting my Plan 9 machine to recognize its network hardware so if you have problems you may have to wait until I get around to addressing them.”

I kind of enjoyed when federation broke and the big instances were scrambling to fix it and SDF’s answer was “welp we’re now a non-federated instance until the Gods see fit to fix it in the next version of Lemmy.” But yes as a platform for participation it’s not ideal.

Agreed. I wish I could transfer my SDF communities over here but it's not possible, sadly.

That's the exact kind of messy migration I want to avoid.

I don't know, but there's a related thread here: https://slrpnk.net/post/18399280

No answers there (as of time of writing this comment), but someone did say they asked about it on IRC.

That's odd, I was able to connect to it less than an hour ago

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 10 months ago

Seems to be up for me now too.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Looks like it just came back up lol

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 10 months ago

I think we're good now lol.

[–] secret300@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago

I never noticed
