IDK, this one seems pretty unsurprising. That's a damned tiny package, I can't really see another way of fastening it together.

Now if it were me, that would be a reason not to make the damn thing in the first place but what do I know...

[–] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 years ago

You sound like one of them damn commies! /s

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 88 points 2 years ago

Me as I read the title: "well, obviously, they must have sunk everything into epoxy to make it waterproof and relatively resistant".

The article: "all the components are covered in epoxy!"

Well, duh.

I don't think this is a case for bitching about irreparability. I'm pretty sure it's so tight it can't be really open.

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, not sure what people expect.
So many knee-jerk reactions.

[–] tabular@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I don't expect a computer to last 2 years due to a battery dying.

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca 33 points 2 years ago

Lmao bruh, that thing is the size of a single screw, you expected them to hold it together with what exactly? Of course it's all glued and soldered up.

Samsung Galaxy Ring, or How To Sell eWaste For 500 Bucks Apiece.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

500 bucks plus subscription

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I stand corrected!

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca -4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

You realize that simply because of its size, there's less e-waste here than like an electric toothbrush, right?

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I think size is the wrong point of comparison, considering this is literally pointless tech. I'm not opposed to wearables, but we're just not at the point where we have small and relevant enough tech to make a ring more advantageous than a fitness band.

Plus we really need to prioritise repairability in all cases, regardless of the tech's application. I'd say we shouldn't even produce something we couldn't then subsequently fix if the need should arise.

[–] hakobo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've ordered the ring because I have the watch, but I don't like wearing the watch at home. Sometimes I put it on at home, but instinctively I find myself taking it off within a few hours. I especially don't like wearing the watch while I sleep. However I have no problem wearing a ring all day. The form factor itself is more advantageous for me, because it's the difference between wearing it or not. When I leave the house, I have no problem putting my watch on and keeping it on. Same way I don't have a problem putting on shoes and keeping them on. But like the watch, I don't like wearing shoes at home.

In this point we disagree, and this being the internet, I feel the need to specify that I'm not being combative, nor mean any disrespect toward your preferences or beliefs.

In my opinion, we're at the point where we have other, bigger things to prioritise over creature comforts.

[–] masterspace@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Man, if you're going to start gatekeeping about pointless tech than a fitness band is also pointless.

Go out and run til you're tired and eat right and you'll get fit.

[–] latenightnoir@lemmy.world -1 points 2 years ago

I honestly don't see the fitness tech in itself as useless, it holds clear benefits for us. I'm just not one to encourage creating increasingly wasteful and predatory iterations of said tech.

[–] Exec@pawb.social 5 points 2 years ago

If you have to argue about how little ewaste it creates when it gets thrown away then the thing shouldn't have been made in the first place

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 years ago

This is just an Ōura clone.

Same subscription grift too.

I'm ditching ōura for this exact bullshit, and it's for this same scam that I'm not getting the Samsung unit.

Yeah, it's not repairable. None of them are. My Ōura g2 is still running, but I'll be in the market when its battery goes completely sour.

Anyway. Ultrahuman. Unless they enshittified also. Maybe a different ring if they can charge off a standard Qi rig AND it has no slimeball subscription scam.

[–] praise_idleness@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 years ago

Who needs this crap? It even costs more than their watch??

[–] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Is anyone surprised at this point?

[–] kusivittula@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 years ago

so it's the same garbage as oura ring. it also causes rash to many users.

If you ever want a giggle, read the GSMArena comment sections!

[–] vikingtons@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

who asked for this?

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

this thing would last a week with me before being broken, my hands are always smashing against something.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

The Ōura it clones is pretty resilient to my normal life. I'm a nerd but also a huge klutz. It's got scratches but my Ōura g2 is still kicking.

[–] Hule@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's pretty small, so maybe not.

[–] kameecoding@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Small enough to use it as a cockring? Asking for a friend

[–] Hule@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago
[–] khaleer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Tf is that, this device sound like it's sort of sex toy.

[–] lauha@lemmy.one 5 points 2 years ago

Smart cockring for micro penis

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Damn I would miss a lot fewer text messages if I wore one of those.
