A downside I never really thought of... is it more like a severe peanut allergy or like some sort of lactose intolerance?

i think the most "realistic" thing would be for vampires to just have much stronger sense of smell and thus garlic is like a punch to the face
so really vampires would just need way less garlic in their garlic bread, so much money saved!

My grandpa is allergic to garlic. I could probably be fine with cutting out most allergens but garlic? That draws the line there.
