Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

(He means non-white people.)

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He needs to stop beating around the bush and say it. We all know his mask is slipping but somehow a vast swath of people seem to be feigning ignorance.

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He could come right out and say "Yes, I'm a nazi." There would still be a ton of people who would say "Oh, he doesn't mean that kind of nazi." or "He's just joking because he wants to piss off the liberals!"

The people aren't going to be able to admit that they supported a fascist takeover of our government, not even when there's soldiers goosestepping in the streets.

[–] postcapitalism@lemmy.today 6 points 1 year ago

Note the use of the dog whistle “dilute” in the German context. He knows exactly what means and anyone who isn’t interested in obfuscating the truth should call it out

[–] 00x0xx@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

We're seeing the rise of White nationalism fueled by defending their version of "white culture" across the globe and centered in the US. Seems to be popular among people of Germany and Anglo-Saxon ancestry, but not unpopular with everyone else, including other Europeans.

[–] Bonifratz@lemm.ee 114 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For almost 80 years, an important part of German culture has been to fight Nazis and wannabe Nazis.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's slightly more than half of the countries age.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 68 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Being German means coming from a country that didn't even exist before 1871 and formed out of many cultures and small realms. Germany is and most of the time was a country of many different people, a country of migration and immigration and that's what made us strong!

Fuck Nazis and fuck Musk and the right-wing parties!

The identity of German and German nationalism are older than 1871. German nationalism started around 1770, but even before that the HRE ruled mostly over German speaking people and created some shared identity.

Something something USA something something melting pot

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I wonder if either world war would have started if Germany and Italy hadn't de-balkanized at the end of the 1800s...

[–] alphapuggle@programming.dev 59 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

What part of "German culture" are you proud of Mr Musk? Go on

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If he tells us the truth, the media, especially the American media, will have lots of punditry debates and discussions about whether or not his love of Nazi Germany means he loves Nazis. And I'm sure his never actually evaluated autism (which he calls Asperger's, a now discarded medical term but one favored by the Nazis) will be brought up.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I was diagnosed with aspergers and that's still my diagnosis on paper just fyi. I do call it autism these days though.

Either way it's cool that all of us autistic folks can get away with anything we want these days I guess. Fucking ableists.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's a bullshit excuse in every way. And there's just no evidence that he has ever been diagnosed. He's just declared it, and probably because he thinks it's a "get out of asshole free" card, which it is not. I have yet to meet a high-functioning autistic person who has trouble with basic concepts of right and wrong. Maybe they make mistakes, but when you say, "that's rude" or whatever, they generally acknowledge it and apologize.

My family has quite a few autistic people in it, including my daughter. None of them would ever, ever "accidentally" do a Nazi salute when they were excited.

[–] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I don't see why anyone would either. It's a very specific gesture that doesn't really come naturally to anyone tbh. Humans don't generally go around saluting eachother in excitement, and that goes for any salute. Nazi or otherwise.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We’re just letting him do this, so why would he ever stop?

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What do you suggest "we" do?

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why are you even asking? Is it because you voted for Trump, or because you feel helpless?

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What does it matter why am I asking? What do you suggest "we" do?

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because “we,” I assume contains you. And the answer to your question changes based on who you are, and what your goals are.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No - it means you in this case.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Again, the answer to your question changes depending on who you are. But, I’m pretty sure I have your number and I’d just be talking to a brick wall.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You have no idea what to do.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You know what you have to do to get the answer.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You don't have any answers 😂

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Says the person too afraid to answer questions :)

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 4 points 1 year ago

Oh thank you, not interacting with you ever again would make my day.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And the crowd cheered and stopped for a Döner on the way home

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This has always made me pause. I've seen the biggest hateful racists enjoy a nice meal at a Mexican restaurant and be completely unaware of the irony.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

It's always been about exploitation. Deport some, scare the rest, then you can abuse them for cheap labor.

A man with Lebanese ancestry and a Jewish woman held speeches at this rally as well.

[–] dipcart@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago

So fucking crazy that a south African who lives in America is telling Germany not to mix cultures. Doesn't really make sense until you think about the fact that they're just talking about being white.

[–] lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com 34 points 1 year ago

Alright, tell him to keep his culture out of our country. We don't need it.

[–] colmear@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s good to be proud of German values, but racism and being a nazi are not German values. Tolerance, punctuality and „Lüften“ are German values.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

It's good to be proud of yourself and your own values

My values are part German, part American, part Mexican, part Dutch, part Canadian... I pick the best of each culture and make them my own.

Just pick the best parts, the parts that make you a better human being, and then it's great to be proud of yourself. This musk stain saying thatulti cultural values is bad is suggesting that other cultures are less, somehow. It's bullshit and it's dangerous.

The path musk is in, currently, is also dangerous for himself. Tides will turn, they always do, and as far as he has gone, his name will be first when the crowds are building gallows. When WWII ended, most nazi followers were pardoned, because of course. You can't kill everyone who makes a mistake, theyd have to kill almost everyone. However, the ring leaders, those got a special treatment

[–] Naich@lemmings.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Elon Musk is a genuine nazi.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

No no, you see it was a Roman salute (it wasn't), so all he was doing was hailing an emperor who was in favor of slavery and had no issue with genocide- and if you are wondering which emperor I mean, it's all of them.

[–] aarRJaay@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

And I assume he said all this in German? ....oh wait, no, he didn't

[–] card797@champserver.net 11 points 1 year ago

Please go back to South Africa.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 11 points 1 year ago

Says the guy from South Africa whose daddy misses apartheid.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

They used the wrong picture, the cowards

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

live via videolink

I guess he wasn't using twatter for that as that is notoriously unreliable, last time it failed badly o nhim

Having said that, I think it's fair to say that Musk is a danger to both democracy in general, and currently to Germany specifically. Germany should ban him, and label him as what he is: a wannabe tyrant dictator.
