Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Your reality exists only in your own mind. But things can exist outside of your reality and there could be things in your reality that don't exist.

Death is something that happens to other people.

I've experienced you telling me it does so it's highly probable, I'd guess.

wow I super do not understand all the down votes on this, it seems like a pretty cut and dry joke about the TV show Friends and the philosphical theory of Solipsism, which seems like exactly the kind of funny thought that id have in a shower.

Haters. If I worked on the phrasing I could make it more clear that I don't subscribe to solipsism just the thought of it gives me peace. Also might get more upvotes if I chose a different subject rather than friends.

Rachel is definitely real.

Your thought experiment is as old as time. If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it drop. Does it still make a sound? And yes it does, physicians proved that last year. So "not real" is probably a question of how you define that.

Get out, touch some grass and meet some people.I would wager that's where there pepper is buried.

Physicians are medical doctors. You probably meant physicists.

Also, what study are you referring to? It's kind of a strange metaphysical question, as observing it is the point of contention. How did they observe it and have that not break the question?

Autocorrect, you are correct about a word.

[–] BitchPeas@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Autocorrect wouldn't catch this, because physician is a word.

Study?

Edit. Ahh I see you referred to the "pepper" above. Where you said to go outside and touch grass. Classy.

Autocorrect corrected "physicist" to "physician" x( you annoy me now. Blocked.

If 99% of Friends isn't real, your life has truly sucked. Dude don't even know what it's like to live inside or be a part of society!

I'm just glad someone recognized this was a joke about friends.

We would have gotten there sooner, but we were on a break!
