My extra spicy first pre coffee thought im response to Sam Altman's viewpoint here: I imagine sam Altmans neighbors have bullets, just wasting their potential sitting in boxes. they yearn for the minds

[–] ZaraL@discuss.online 6 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Any chance you could get charged for harassment or something using this?

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

It's America so yes.

Also, big tech can hire expensive lawyers and drag out the process for years. There is no justice when you have rich vs normal.

[–] homosapien@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 hours ago

not if you have proper security and privacy

[–] it_wasnt_arson@awful.systems 1 points 7 hours ago

Might technically fall afoul of anti-spam legislation if you don't respect unsubscribe requests, though I'm not sure if that's specifically for commercial email in the US, and it's not like unsubscribing from one instance of this would do much. Probably easy to filter, though.

Pffft. We all know you can just download more ram. What's this guys problem?

[–] Kojichan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Good old Memmaker! Classic memory boosting program. Sam should take notes.

[–] onnekas@sopuli.xyz 4 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

In fairness, he says the remarks were taken out of context, posted “i want you to have so much ram”, and briefly went by Ram Altman on X. That makes this script a daily progress report.

Umm I read/watched the context and somehow the message does not change. Am I missing something?
Do I hallucinate or does he?

[–] Manalith@midwest.social 2 points 3 hours ago

He definitely hallucinates, but I think what he might be trying to imply is that if they get more RAM in the data centers it'll be easier to get more RAM for people and lower the over all cost? Which because of capitalism is obvious bullshit. But also, this is the guy that said AI will bring about the end of the world, so I suspect he wants more RAM to speed up that process.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

LLMs have the basic decency to admit they were wrong when corrected. That places their humanity level above that of CEOs.

[–] oatscoop@midwest.social 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

They're both always enthusiastically and confidently wrong. No wonder CEOs love AI.

I'd buy this on a T-shirt

Look how much money is wasted in billionaires. It would be far more useful with poor people who would actually use the money instead of hoarding it like dragons.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

I think they are generelly seen as alien reptiles rather than dragons... :)

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 5 points 10 hours ago

Tax those fuckers into ground

[–] perturbedstarstuff@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

That's what money does.

Exponential wealth and power consolidation is an emergent property.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 15 hours ago

for ages the stories have battled over the ultimate purpose of humanity.

Is not the purpose, to meet the needs of all people while sustaining the environment that gives us this life?

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 41 points 16 hours ago

It's not vibecoded if anyone else wanted to check.

[–] thagoat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 87 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Hi Sam,

I hear RAM is hard to come by these days, so it feels a bit rude to be sitting on 248.1 GiB of it. Total installed: 251.7 GiB. It's not for sale, I just like knowing it's there.

Stay allocated, A concerned RAM owner

[–] UntimedDiffusion@piefed.zip 110 points 20 hours ago

Free as in unallocated

[–] faythofdragons@piefed.social 44 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I'm really not sure why he wants all these male sheep anyways.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 14 points 18 hours ago

I think he wants anti-siege weapons.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Because Quark's brother won't return his calls.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 4 points 17 hours ago

left on read-only :(

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 32 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

There's also a RAM vinyl just sitting on my shelves, unused...

Yeah, why shouldn't I listen to it again?

[–] Solstice_11@sh.itjust.works 14 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

The Trance artist or Daft Punk album?

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 12 points 19 hours ago

Latter, of course.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 25 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Surely if he needs RAM so badly he'd accept donations, right?

Is there anywhere he accepts large files? Because surely there's some generous souls who would upload RAM to help him out

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 19 points 18 hours ago (1 children)
[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Did you just spin that site up for this joke? It actually exists but its just a form to give them an email address for unspecified reasons

[–] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 18 hours ago

Lol I think I saw it in a meme on here or blue sky yesterday.

[–] unitedwithme@lemmy.today 22 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Ohhh man, he'd hate to hear 128GB DDR5 is just sitting in my basement unused at this time. Building an office/game room and it's disconnected for <1year

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 17 points 11 hours ago

Can I get your address, work hours, and mortal weaknesses?

[–] irq0@infosec.pub 19 points 19 hours ago

That much RAM could pay my mortgage

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 13 points 18 hours ago

Honestly the best version of this joke so far.

I love you beautifully creative bastards.

[–] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 8 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

cute, and i love the sentiment, but unless it can actually waste sam altman's money i'm not interested.

he has changed his user name on twitter to "ram altman". he does not care about the jokes.

[–] diaphragmwp@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Ah yes, the cope by pretending to play along. Like PirateSoftware's profile picture once being his own parody, which is a thing I also learned from others reporting on it as I don't use Xitter.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 3 points 12 hours ago

Ram Altman? Oh I fucking would, with a steamroller.
