Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

So true! I was looking forward to drinking for the longest time. And as soon as I tried it...it sucked so bad 😭
The flavor, the effect, the culture around it...ugh. Not for me, thanks.

Beer is ass. Pour me a glass of wine.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can't relate, fuck I love having a glass of whiskey in a thumping queer bar

Fair! Enjoy girlie 🩷

[–] pmk@piefed.ca 22 points 1 day ago

I read somewhere: Kids think that the adult drink is coffee, teenagers think that the adult drink is beer/wine, adults think that the adult drink is water.

The trick is to become addicted so that the bitter, solvent taste triggers the brain chemical anyway.

[–] buran@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I stopped drinking alcohol for around 8 months and I must say beer is the most horrible drink out there, I don't see anything redeemable about it.

But I like whiskey, aguardiente, vodka and especially, wine. Still not worth the cancer.

I can enjoy a few beers. Sours and stouts mostly.

But cider is just better in like every way. It's crazy that prohibition is still fucking us up a century later.

I absolutely hate beer too, but Radler (I think it's called Shandy, or if you translate it directly: Cyclist) is fucking great

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago

I've never picked up the taste for beer. It may be certain beers I don't like, but I can't really be bothered to go through all of the beers and work out which ones tastes good especially because I suspect that the ones I actually like will never be on sale.

Personally I'd rather drink cocktails and mixes.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly, that’s one of the better outcomes. Alcohol is pretty dangerous and I’ll applaud someone for abandoning it for any reason.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 22 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I abandon it for harder drugs. Applaud me!

You have to find the right booze for you ... actually you don't have to, just drink whatever

... and it's not food based innuendo??

Weird, right? 😂 /s

Wine tastes like how feet smell.

I don't know if it's a genetic thing (like the cilantro thing for some people), but I've tried fine wines and also the cheapest box wine, and it's the same thing for me.

[–] Harmonics041@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Red, white and rose? Or one in particular? I feel like those would have to be considerably different smelling feet. I have never tasted that note but I'm on the look out for it next time I have a glass lol

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 17 hours ago

Mostly red, but white is not so far behind. And now that you mention it, I haven't tried rosé yet.

I'm honestly sad I won't be able to drink a nice glass of wine with someone. I know it's a bonding/romantic experience for the majority of people.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The culture around it=> yes. 100%.

You know how they portray the local sportsbar in soapsseries as "just the good ol guys hanging out"?

Now think of what that looks like irl.

Not the same is it? Oftentimes it looks more like a bunch of cavemen inching towards a riot. And if it isn't that it's probably very sexist talk or such.

Aside from a few stupid years where I was trying to silence God and my inner turmoil rather then admitting that one wasn't real (to me, you do you if that keeps you going) and the other was me trying to break free. I cut down alcohol as far as, maybe one or two drinks on occasion (being once every two/three months or so). And even that is ... meh.

And a big part of that is, the feeling of hiding. Being drunk is just another escape from being truly yourself. Sure, you get the giggles and whatnot but at my age that feels very empty. And disingenous.

What I still hate is "how about you? A beer or some champagne?" And oftentimes I'll just have the one drink and slowly work my through it eventhough...I kinda don't want to. But I also don't wanna deal with the "oh come on, just have one it won't hurt".

I've seen some people go down some very dark paths because of alcohol. And that alcohol is usually there to patch up some old wounds.

I'm starting to sound like an AA member here but you get the gist of it.

In my country at least, the talking always turns sexist, no matter what. It's just a matter of time and I fucking hate it.

And it's so normalized, you get yelled at for having a problem with it. I hate it so fucking much...

From my experience, men drinking in pubs is a baaaaad environment...and it's not the alcohol, although it does make it worse. It's part of the reason why I stay the fuck away.

Anyway, sorry for the rant :P
I hate this country so fucking much...

Yes. Drinking literal poison is indeed... Ass.

[–] buran@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

Carcinogenic literal poison, actually.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago

the smoothness and juiciness if her drawings are just incredible.

[–] Shirow@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean don't get me wrong, I dislike most alcoholic beverage. Just a few strong alcholol and cocktails.

If you try to give me beer (whether and it's a good one or cheap), wine (any), champagne (same), to me they taste bad. Like different bad, but still bad.

For a French girl, except for baguette, I don't like much french stuff after all (no stinky cheese either or any stereotype French weird food)

OMG I FORGOT WINE WAS A THING, I'M DUMB

Red wine...anytime 😂
That's about the only thing I'll drink. Wine is good :3

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Same dude:tte

I'm German and I hate all the standard drinks you get here (and I don't like the French ones, either), to the point that I'm often bringing pre-mixed cocktails to birthday parties and the like, only to find out that they don't even have ice cubes...

[–] SquishedFly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I know it wouldn't go well with the existing culture around it but I am so incredibly for making it illegal for general grocery stores to sell any alcohol above 5%.

Alcohol is a drug. And drugs shouldn't be available to anyone as readily as bread. Make it only be available to specialist stores and increase taxes on alcohol to hell and back! (unless it's pure ethanol... Please leave some slack for us hobbyist chemists and tinkerers ;-;)

[–] Aoife@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Vice taxes are a form of regressive taxation so I can't say I'm with you there.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean I get your point but also it just introduces an inconvenience for normal people, and I don't think it really decreases alcohol abuse. People who are genuine addicts will just go where the alcohol is, might as well make it easy for them to pick up the groceries at the same time, otherwise they might just not do that.

[–] Ashelyn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The point of making it harder to acquire is to prevent people who aren't addicted from becoming addicted in the first place. Once people reach addiction status they will usually find a way to get ahold of supply even if barriers are in place

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Okay but we know that addiction is a loneliness issue not really a substance issue. When people are isolated and repressed/suppressed, they are far more likely to get addicted. Community is the key, and of course it isn't a panacea to addiction, but it sure does prevent a lot of it, and helps people out of it.

I was 19 and I was at a friend's place. Her brother came in with a bottle of Smirnoff and offered us a glass. I was like "I'm not old enough" and they respected that. Then they opened it and I was like "did you also bring cupcakes?" It was the booze I was smelling. I asked for a glass. They told me to sip it. By the time they were done talking the glass was empty.

I look back on that night now and just laugh. I don't drink anymore.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

I still drink sometimes, but at this point the most prominent effect is usually a headache, so it doesn't feel worth it very often

[–] Titanna@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 day ago

It was always ass, bet we all just picked cheapest shits. Now, with own ID, You can taste good things, and compare... then compare more, then compare more. Find better, more suited for personal liking.

Also... oh afaik You're youngling, but recently, so many new things happens, all in and around alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and sodas and sparkles and such... it's only harder and harder to pick the best one... but also, many should fit at least good. GLHF finding Your fav (and enjoy it, until they stop making it, they will, only to start the seek again).

[–] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago

Man without booze would not be the person I am today and that is both a good and bad thing. Overall I like alcohol and I feel now days my relationship with it is much better than in was in my youth.

[–] Interstellar_1@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is weird being in university and not drinking or taking any substances. Especially since my university program has a lot of culture around drinking.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 5 points 1 day ago

I feel lucky, I see this sort of sentiment of "it's hard on your social life not drinking" fairly often, but I've gone my whole life thus far without so much as tasting the stuff, and don't think I've ever had anyone push back on me in any significant way when Ive expressed my preferences on the matter. I take it as a sign my current circle of friends is a good one and that I'm fortunate to have ended up with them.
