I've tried to get my wife to record me snoring, giggling and talking in my sleep. I want to hear it so bad.

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Well, the OP's username certainly checks out! Sleep apnea can be a big, common cause of snoring, (especially funny/weird snoring,) since your body is desperately trying to keep you breathing and alive against other parts of your body that are trying to do the opposite, all while you're not getting enough oxygen, lol. Then you're pooped and foggy all the time because that kind of sleep is nooot all that restful. A lot of people don't even realize how bad it is for them until after they got treatment.
If this sounds like you or someone you love, and getting a sleep study is an option, please talk to your doctor about getting one! I gave a really simplistic explanation of it, (sorry, my brain is disabled trash,) but it's a serious -- and usually super treatable! -- condition.

😂
My bf has it. It's that "funny kind of snoring" where he sometimes stops making sound (but I can see him breathing), literally jolts awake while gasping for air, wakes up for a couple of seconds and falls back asleep...over and over again. When the choking part comes, it scares the shit out of me and I literally jump. It's baaaad.
I finally convinced him to get it checked after a looooong time of trying to live with it. I think he got a sleep study? He got a machine to put onto himself at night to monitor one night of his sleep. We returned the machine with the recorded data, but we never heard back from the doctor. I'm gonna get him to go again, cause it's honestly terrible, on top of that he only sleeps like 6 hours and he doesn't take it seriously at all. sigh
Anyway, rant over. Bf snores.
Sounds like sleep apnea, definitely get a diagnosis on that!

I unfortunately see myself in this, since I only recently did the 'go back to your PCP to follow up on the sleep study' part after a year of not hearing anything back. I really wish I had done so sooner.
Absolutely encourage him to follow up with the doctor, and if at all possible, REREAD the sleep study results and actually understand what it says (research if you have to!). I was regularly getting down below 87% SpO2 (you're not supposed to go below 93%...) and it made me feel like microwaved dogshit. I got a CPAP and it has done wonders for my sleep. I'm actually trying to get my wife to go in for one as well, but it will be interesting to see how we can get the hosing to her spot in the middle...
I can second that feeling of “microwaves dogshit” sleeping without a CPAP.
Wear it even for naps; it helps (as advice to the top commenter)
Just an FYI for others: you can have sleep apnea even if you don't snore; in the same vein, if you snore,it doesn't mean you have sleep apnea. For instance, my partner started snoring once he became overweight. He did a sleep study, which confirmed no sleep apnea.
But if you suspect sleep apnea, get a sleep study asap. It can cause various health issues such as diabetes, heart issues, high blood pressure, etc.
I started snoring after years of drinking heavily! After quitting, I no longer snore.
Sleep apnea is no joke… a relative had it so bad they were randomly falling asleep all the time during the day, they were just absurdly sleep deprived. But they were claiming they were “sleeping fine 8 hours a day” and it was nothing. They only got it checked after the whole family refused to get in the car if they were driving and refused to let them babysit. That was the wake up call they needed. (Oddly the whole thing lasted two months total from first symptoms to absurdity and intervention) Now with the CPAP they are doing great again.
I knew someone that died in their 20s from sleep apnea.
That sounds more like central apnea than obstructive apnea.
When my dad had a TBI, I told the nurses that he had undiagnosed sleep apnea because he wasn't coherent yet.
Their response? "Oh honey, we know."
He ran marathons for 40 years, so it's important to note that sleep apnea isn't just a weight issue
There's now a dental appliance you can get that treats sleep apnea so you don't have to fuck with a CPAP. One of these days I'll do my impressions for it.
If your sleep apnea is “light” enough you can get the mouth guard. If it’s bad to worse, it’s either machine or implant.
I'm not talking about the mouth guard. This is a prescription dental appliance for mild to moderate obstructive apnea.
Ok all this sleep apnea stuff is fine and you should get checked of you can, go do it, yes.
But if someone recorded me while I was sleeping and posted it to the internet rather than talking to me about it, that’s a huge invasion of privacy, 40k listeners or not. Wtf?
And nobody here is concerned with that..?
Hmm if it's anonymous it doesn't seem too bad. Unless ofc she gets to the hundreds of millions and ppl start recognizing you by your snore
Had a supermorbidly obese mania pt where (imo) a big part of the problem was poor sleep at night. They would sleep sitting straight up against the wall and when they would finally nod off, their head would fall to the side and you'd immediately hear them start choking on their own throat until they jerked partially awake enough to pick their head back up. That mania was crazy hard to break because they were too manic to tolerate the CPAP but also too sleep deprived to break out of the mania.
100% medically cleared and ambulatory enough for psych but that snore was just aaaawful to listen to. I used to mention it every single time I handed off in the morning and they'd be like "we know!" and I'd be like, no. no you don't know. You haven't just sat and listened to it for an hour straight. It just keeps going like that. Continuously. There is 0 REM happening. ZERO.
