Two years of a lame duck presidency would be a breath of fresh air after the last two.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 61 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It would be very funny to see the 2027 Congress pushing the bipartian "Infinity Money for Israel Act" which Trump vetos out of spite.

But like so much else with The Don, it's gonna be TACO Tuesday every time he suffers a marginal amount of pressure.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Pig Boy has been talking about cutting funding for Israel. It's not clear to me why, but it might be that he expects Netanyahu's coalition to lose power and he wants to punish the infinitesimally less genocidal opposition. Or he blames Netanyahu for the Iran war debacle and the US election wipeout. Of course, nothing can ever be Trump's fault.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 25 points 5 days ago

You’ll always be Mr. Pedo to me.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 106 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sore loser who cares more about his ego than the american people.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago

Exactly.

Shit will stay bad, undeniably bad.

And I'm 2 years Dems get to campaign on hypotheticals for how much progressive policy would have helped if we had a progressive president.

The were looking at 2/3s majoritie to get a lot done, and insulation from remaining neoliberals who won't vote with the party

It's honestly the best path to super majorities, because we don't have to try and get some stuff accomplished the next two years, there's zero expectation that trump will let anything pass. So even if nothing gets fixed, it will still just help Dems.

[–] DonJefe@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago

He'll always be Mr. Pedo to me

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 48 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (6 children)

Believe it or not, that's the ideal outcome short of impeachment.

The economy is fucked, and we have proof his government has been lying about the numbers. An obstructionist Trump lets Dems continue to rightly blame him for it, and Republicans with any luck take it on the chin again in 2028.

18 U.S. Code § 594 - Intimidation of voters

[–] psycholocomotor_no2@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

He's above the law, lol. You think this'll be the thing that gets him in trouble? I'm sure he commits a crime like this every single day. The legal system just doesn't apply to 99% of rich people.

Bring on the government shutdowns

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yep! Let's play the "no budget will be passed until ICE is completely disbanded" game. Sounds fun.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Honestly it might be worth it just to get the supreme court to rule that the government can't shut down because it refuses to authorize funding to itself

Beats the ever-loving fuck out of whatever the fuck he's doing now.

[–] Alph4d0g@piefed.social 37 points 5 days ago

It'd be pretty cool if the Democratic Party had fewer Republicans in it. I suspect this Haley Stevens revelation today is but a visible pimple with a several-pound, teeth-and hair-laden conjoined twin lurking underneath. If true, expect more of the same from the orange scrotum.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

[Biden's term] mcconnell: "We're going to block any meaningful legislation just to make him look bad"

[orange pedo's 2nd term]the orange pedo: "if I don't get my way I'll veto everything the Dems try to pass"

And which one claims to be the party for Americans again?

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'd rather good laws be vetoed than bad laws be enacted

[–] III@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Best Republicans can do, veto good laws, letting only bad ones be enacted.

[–] Furbag@pawb.social 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (4 children)

Veto away, Krasnov. By all means, please make Republicans look like incompetent fools for the next 2 years so we can sweep in 2028 too. After that, maybe finally we can get some shit done and prosecute the fascists (if the corporate masters are willing to indulge us, of course).

Just imagine if he did nothing the last two years, but just coasted along, letting Biden's work continue.

Things would have been fine.

He might turn into "Mr. Impeached" rather quickly.

[–] TehWorld@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

He's already been impeached. Twice. It takes too many members of congress to actually remove him though.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 27 points 5 days ago

I mean that implies he would not veto something if they did. Which is obviously not true. So an empty threat, keep voting.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Still better than being Mr Tariff and Mr Pedo. Tell him his terms are acceptable.

We're pretty close to being in "Mr Veto gets overridden" territory. Senate Republicans up for re-election in 2028 are going to be strongly tempted to defect from their party line in the interest of not being thrown out by the electorate. We only need 6 to jump ship for an override.

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 21 points 5 days ago

How about Mr. inmate? Let’s try that out instead…

He’s at the dementia stage where he signs anything when a pen is handed to him. He’s not making his own decisions any longer.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Unfortunately he has enough handlers to keep him doing roughly what they want him to do.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago

like when turtle man nearly voted wrong.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

So, an obstructionist. I thought if Americans have spoken, there was no recourse but to do what they want.

But that only seems to apply to conservatives, even if they don't get the popular vote, though.

When Democrats win, the cons do everything possible to obstruct.
