!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

It's just gone! I had some good conversations going too :(

Sure I may have picked it partially because the name was cool and partially because I needed to correct someone who was wrong about solar panels while first checking out Lemmy, but they were cool people doing good work and I miss em. The best kind of nerds. Fingers crossed for an eventual return, otherwise RIP.

Actually looks like all of f-hub is down, anyone know what's up? And/or if there's a way to see my post history there?

e: here's an update from poVoq, if anyone's got a hot tip on how to see my posts there that's great but both my concern and curiosity have been alleviated. Thanks :)

e x2: got help with finding my old posts too. All questions answered, you guys rock

They posted an update here.

poVoq here. I am starting to think I am cursed, because everything works fine (or is at least fixable with a remote server restart) until the second I go on a longer business trip and can’t easily access the hardware.

Remote access is mostly lost, but I was able to triangulate the issue and of course it is something I had on my list of potential issues, but as a low priority item 🫠 At least it isn’t the same problem again as in 2025.

What exactly triggered the issue is unclear though. I was still able to access the reverse-proxy server yesterday (shortly before it went down) and tried to do some updates for that php security problem in a VM that runs on the same machine. I thought I had those covered, but there is a slight chance that it is related and someone chained another exploit to escape the VM.

Anyways, it looks like the realistic / not overly optimistic scenario is that the server will stay down until christmas. I did have someone who could restart the servers on site until this summer, but they had to relocate to mainland Portugal for job reasons (tourism sector) and so they will also only return for christmas.

So yeah, not great at all, and I will have to think more seriously about how compatible this kind of self-hosting is with my current job, which limits my access to the servers for a few weeks at least once a year. It was easier during the pandemic times when I started all this, as deployments were shorter and more seldom back then.

Oh man... I used to do server admin more tyan a decade ago and that reminds me of horrible times trying to figure problems out. The internet is so damn fragile. I don't envy anyone trying to do that these days..

Here's an update from the admin. They say it might stay down until Christmas.

AFAIU https://slrpnk.net/ is hosted on unique, solar-powered hardware and there was something challenging about its physical location, too.

And short downtimes were to be expected anyhow.

But this is clearly something else; I read the admin's explanation, and going to the site returns this:

This website is currently offline due to an hardware issue that can't be resolved quickly.

It is possible that it will only be restored in December 2026. Sorry.

if anyone’s got a hot tip on how to see my posts there that’s great

so... I'm not an expert, but I think if you go to the basic lemmy search function on lemmy instance A, you can search by user on lemmy instance B. the search field requires some text but you can put a single space there. That'll give you all the posts/comments that federated from instance A to instance B.

For example, I have an account on slrpnk.net that I don't use any more, but on lemmy.world I can search for it thusly:

https://lemmy.world/search?q=+&type=All&listingType=All&creatorId=10734489&page=1&sort=TopAll&titleOnly=false

Images won't be available (bc slrpnk.net is down and the images are hosted there) but all the posts and comments should be visible -- if the community was being federated to lemmy.world.

Legend. In retrospect probably should've been able to figure that out, but thanks for walking me through it :)

Ive read this copy-pasta before

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

No you haven't

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No announcements I can find.

But, sometimes instances will go down temporarily due to things happening faster than admins can give any warning. And, if they don't have accounts elsewhere, they might not bother to make one just you announce afterwards.

Normally, I'd say to check and see if your instance defederated from them, but that's such a solid instance, it would be really weird for anyone to defed from them.

Wouldn't count them out. Just recently, literature.cafe went down for a couple of days. Sh.itjust.works has had to block app access while setting up protections from bots. Similar stuff happens. An update might break something, or what have you.

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's not a federation issue, that's where my only account was until I registered this one today. Day or two is nbd and has happened before, but this is day 3 or 4 and I'm starting to wonder

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Aha!

There's a hardware issue.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah, three and four days is a while to be out without some kind of attempt to let people know what's going on

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How long has it been down? It it's been just a few days, then maybe give it a while.

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

This would be day 3 or 4 since I noticed, being down for a day or so once in a while isn't unusual but it's starting to seem like something more serious. This message has replaced the whole site for now, that hasn't happened before.

"This website is currently offline due to an hardware issue that can't be resolved quickly.

It is possible that it will only be restored in December 2026. Sorry.

For urgent questions please contact info@f-hub.org"

Emailing that address would be the obvious move, but 1. it's not particularly urgent 2. I'm too noided to expose my email and 3. f-hub itself seems to be down as well
