Maybe I'm the outlier, but all the corporate wellness teams I've worked with have been really dedicated to what they do and advocate for the health of the employees. Did they get the support from the higher ups? Hell no lol. But at least the actual wellness department had excellent intentions.

"Good intentions" don't stop panic attacks.

I mean yeah, I agree.

the worst thing about it is the hypocrisy

I'm sorry you guys work for horrible companies. My work offers a $500 reimbursement for any health related expenses like gym memberships or exercise equipment. I spent this years allotment on research peptides lol

I swear my corporate wellness program is a data gathering company based off the questions they ask, the frequency of having to check in, and for how little money they kick back.

Contrast with an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Those basically help pay for private mental health counseling, clinicians for social/family issues, etc. Anything outside work that makes it hard to do well at work.

Especially during and after COVID I had several employees that lost family or were just generally mentally losing it. I was able to give them the corporate EAP URL.

For some people the fact that the process of getting an appointment with a clinician is corporate and structured (and at least partly paid-for) makes it easier.

Wouldn't surprise me

We had heartless layoffs! You can use our virtual therapy service to get rid of any bad feelings so you don't think about quitting or unionizing.

What you say may be sent to HR to facilitate with the next round of layoffs.

Not seen much wellness stuff, but most of the employee appreciation seems to favor the office people and not production. Sometimes it seems like the idea is to neg everyone at the “unskilled” and trade level.

This reminds me of the corporate trend of giving free Mindfulness classes, after cutting Health-Care benefits.

Also this come from the Nazi Germany managerial tactics

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Pshh at least they got meth pills

Soldiers had some … I’m not sure that manager clerk that sign off Jews to the train had some, at least they had corporate retreats and wellness break

a pizza party is hella cheaper than a raise, but it's paradoxically also much worse for morale to cancel a pizza party than to not give a raise.

My company don't even give me all federal holidays. FFS

[–] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I strongly believe everyone should have all federal holidays off and paid. I also think there should be at least one holiday per month.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

i mostly agree, but there are too many jobs that really need to ignore standard holidays (like emergency department personnel and restaurateurs/grocers, to name a couple) because shit happens. it's not often that i'm too exhausted to make a bowl of cereal, but if i'm that tired i'm going to buy some food instead of suffering, you know?

[–] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Easy enough to take the holiday on the next Friday/Monday. Back in the day everyone but the hospitals were closed for the big holidays and it was fine. I even remember when most businesses were closed on Sundays in some places. You do just a little planing ahead and occasionally borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor. The day off is a chance to relax so you aren’t to tired to cook.

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 6 points 2 days ago

The solution is paid overtime. In Sweden there are a couple of overtime categories. If you're scheduled to work on Sundays, you get like 20% extra. This stacks with working nights which gives you like 20% extra again.

Holidays count as Sunday.

Haha it's funny to see it out loud.
