Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Oh my fucking god, this might be the most badass comeback to those shitty "it's gay" arguments I've heard in a long time 😂

Some may disagree but even the idea that trans women were ever men in the first place is kinda backwards. Trans people have the brains of the gender they are and we are our brains, not our genitals. Trans people are just adjusting their body to the identity they always were in the first place.

Also, even if you're ill informed enough to think its gay....so what? Why is being gay bad? Enough with the fucking bigotry already get over yourselves.

we are our brains, not our genitals

This resonates. Excellent quote.

It's like misogyny, why is being compared to a woman an insult? Fuck bigotry, especially the borderline genocide happening to trans people right now.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 20 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I wish I understood this earlier than like 4 years sgo. They don't teach it at school in the country where I and Miisha live, even the "woke" one I went to (or I don't remember, I was super ignorant back then)...

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 17 points 4 days ago

Better late than never :)

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 days ago

This country sucks ass. Fuck this place tbh :p

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (6 children)

This is an oversimplification. It often (not always) aligns closer to the affirmed gender, but neuroscientists often describe post-mortem trans brains as a mosaic.

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 16 points 4 days ago

Brains in general are mosaics as is all biology. It’s a bioessentialist take to view our bodies and brains as split in a binary manner.

Hi, local pedantic lemming here, one correction. She was not "born male," but merely "assigned" as one. Carry on.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 3 days ago

You are correct. Please ignore my absolutely unpedantic ass and carry on. Thanks ♥️

[–] 13igtyme@startrek.website 6 points 3 days ago

Silly statement. It's beastiality since we used to be apes.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't think the people calling him gay see the woman he's dating as "used to be male".

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

I don't think they think much at all

"Nooo, it's because they're actually a 1000 year old reincarnated male dragon!"

I'm gender fluid at at any point I identify with whatever makes you feel gay :3

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you use "gay" as an insult, then you have cat shit where your brains are supposed to be

I actually discovered I was gay (or realistically just not straight) when my partner transitioned XD

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

I thought i was at least 20% gay for being okay with transwomen. I now realize im 100% gay b3cause im a transwoman with a wife.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

I've been married for so long that I'd just take one for the team if my partner transitioned. Divorce is no joke.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 4 days ago

Win-win? Happy partner, happy you?😂

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 22 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Why not both? Or just forget labels and fuck.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 4 days ago

Or just forget labels and fuck

Now that's an idea! 😂
I like it :3

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 15 points 4 days ago

With the demographic this comeback is aimed at: yes, likely pedophiles.

[–] greenskye@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 days ago (6 children)

I mean I have seen people unironically claim the second scenario. And people seem to forever be attempting to claim 20+ year old women as 'children' whenever they are dating older men as well. Which, sure call the dude out for being gross, but don't try to rob an adult of their own agency. That always came off as weirdly sexist against women to me. Like a grown woman couldn't and shouldn't be trusted to make her own decisions. Which just felt like yet another way to control women, not actually protect them.
