I replied to someone saying that the USSR defeated the Nazis saying that it was a group effort. Got into an argument and called a Nazi repeatedly because "I was mad that the USSR defeated the Nazis and hated them for it" which is ridiculous. This isn't the first time that's happened on Lemmy. What's up with that?

The comments have turned into a debate, and we all know what .ml is like. This post would’ve been better suited to !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com or !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works.

It’s generating unnecessary reports, wasting our time.

Locking.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

.ml is tankie horseshit

[–] Sordid_Seraphim@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm basically new, how would a user like me go about blocking these instances?

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I guess all that lend lease equipment we used to prop up the weak soviet industry had nothing to do with it. They thanked us by making a clone of the B-29.

[–] Latuga17@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I got in an argument because someone there claimed the only reason the holocaust is commemorated is to support zionism and I said that there might be other reasons too to commemorate a genocide. Then I made a negative comment about put in the same thread and it was deleted immediately.

Don't take it personal. There are some deep Tankie holes on Lemmy, primarily .lm, they'd even take offense if you were suggesting, that maybe not absolutely everything is splendid in North Korea and I am not kidding or exaggerating here.

You think they're bad at ml? Wait till you get a load of hexbear.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

They are so weird there. They were arguing that North Korea is definitely not an authoritarian regime and also definitely not starving their citizens or some stupid shit, and one of them started yelling about how I probably believed North Koreans all had the same haircut because of the mainstream media, which I... didn't, but I said if they did, it wouldn't be crazy because they have less diverse media to access, but also that wouldn't have anything to do with why North Korea's government is bad, but I was just so confused why they were mad about it.

Mods on Lemmy are like the mods on reddit but on steroids. They'll ban you for completely petty nonsense.

[–] stinkytofuisgood@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

It's worth trying out local or niche instances of lemmy as opposed to only the big ones. I think you'll find a bit more peace that way. The internet is as the internet does, but there's pockets of relief!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

i think you have it the other way around. on reddit bannings are more severe, since you get banned from the whole site. you are facing against a sub mod ban, filters, and then the reddit admin filters too. plus thier shadowbans seems much harder to get around with, unless you are using evasion methods. on lemmy you can get banned bya community, or instance, but still can participate in those communities and instances if you have another account. reddit does IP/fingerprinting bans, as well ashadowbans.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

Well I said mods not admins.

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah. Welcome to lemmy.ml

Many of us just block all the communities of lemmy.ml. this way you are out of reach of the tankie mods.

Unfortunately, lemmy.ml is one of the big instances, so you're also cutting a big chunk of Lemmy content. But if enough people join the ml boycott (there are already a lot of people that block ml), eventually ml will shrink and other more sensible instances will prevail.

[–] cm0002@lemy.lol 4 points 1 day ago

Actually, according to lemmyverse.net (great place for comm discovery btw!) and my own experience cross posting .ml content, .ml is almost entirely held up by a core set of the most diehard tankie users. Most .ml comms are overshadowed by comms on other instances with much higher Monthly Active Users numbers.

The comm search field goes by pure subscriber count which doesn't really decrease for any reason other than a user actually unsubscribing from a comm so all of those insane numbers on some .ml comms are just overinflated and don't reflect actual traffic. It's full of dead and/or banned accounts, alts and some still active users

Oh gosh, any snarky comments about the reality of China and the fact that they are pumping out more billionaires than the US always gets deleted on ML.

They are fucking delusional and ignore all evidence that challenges their bizarre viewpoints. When it comes to Russia they are even worse. They are not wrong about Russia doing the heavy lifting in WWII, but they are definitely being assholes about it.

Whenever I am on Lemmy and noticed someone being very passive aggressive around politics you can almost guarantee they are from ML.

[–] late_pessimistic@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 day ago

Whenever I am on Lemmy and noticed someone being very passive aggressive around politics you can almost guarantee they are from ML.

I have also noticed this a few weeks ago. I don't know whats with the snarky, ignorant, immature attitude, but its always .ml

[–] innermachine@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I have found that if u make a legitimate argument backed by facts that are irrefutable, the mod will ban you and delete all your comments for breaking from their echo chamber. Decided to return the favor for their whole instance so I no longer have the misfortune of seeing any of the drivel on their communities. Sucks because there was a couple I enjoyed despite the tankies, but there's much better alternative communities on other instances that won't kick u out for having a differing opinion. .ml/hexbear basically = authoritarian cuck, it's like the communist version of Trump supporters as weird as that sounds.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago

as if they dont realize russia uses nazis currently in the war, at least for wagner.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Yeah like others have said they don't like people saying bad things about China or Russia. I'm banned from a few places for saying jack ma (founder of ali-baba) was disappeared for re-education since he used to be a huge critic of the Chinese government, went missing for like a week, then came back and suddenly started praising the Chinese government and thats not even a little sus?

[–] cm0002@lemy.lol 84 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (6 children)

That's just the admins of lemmy.ml for ya, here's a megathread on them

You'll get banned for showing support for Ukraine or going against Russian narratives or if you remind them of Putlers promise to not invade or just shit talking Putler in general

Or calling out propaganda sites - https://lemmy.world/post/32776038 | https://lemmy.world/post/33416433 | https://lemmy.world/post/34051329 | https://lemmy.world/post/35919522

Or so much more, I actually haven't updated the megathread in a few months, but there's more recent stuff on !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works

ETA - Join the lemmy.ml boycott today and help foster a better Lemmy-verse! No more posts, comments (except to counter their propaganda ofc!) or upvotes on any comms on the Lemmy.ml instance! To make this easy you can do an instance block at Settings > Block Tab > Scroll to bottom > Input "lemmy.ml" and apply And consider donating to individual instances instead.

Can recommend !world@quokk.au as the best alternative

This isn’t the first time that’s happened on Lemmy. What’s up with that?

It was lemmy.ml/worldnews...

https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=24410054

If you go to settings you should be able to block an entire instance and then won't see them on /all

There's a couple instances that always moderate like that. But you're better off just hanging out, finding out for yourself, and then blocking what you don't agree with.

But there's another that bans people for downvoting AI, but only for a few days so people come back to be trolled. And at least one that bans anyone who tries to take anything seriously.

Stop looking at Lemmy as a single thing, there are dozens of instances acting largely autonomously and if one fucks up, make sure you call out that one and not the entire fediverse.

Fair enough. The way Lemmy works is kinda confusing.

Ya the guys in Lemmy.ml tend to be pretty weird like that. They aren't a monolith but in general they tend to think that Russia, China, and North Korea have never done anything bad and that all the evil in the world comes from capitalism in europe and America and that the whole world will be fixed when The Revolution comes. It is all sort of like evangelical Christianity with the numbers filed off, the president of the United States is like an appointed satan (appointed, not elected, they don't believe elections work/are real in the west) who rules over hell which is the west (sometimes stylized as "Amerikkka", often accompanied by an American flag emoji with a fire emoji on top of it or a jpeg of a Chinese emperor shooting a fireball), Karl Marx is sort of like Jesus and mao, lenin, Stalin, etc. are the disciples, and The Revolution is the rapture. It is a pretty interesting belief system and I think the .ml guys all mean well, but they can be really difficult to talk to sometimes, as you've seen.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 41 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

They also seem to mad that you pointed out Russia was on the Axis side originally and is acting like they were always on the Allied side.

.ml comm? It's pretty funny how they can't even run an online community without censorship.

Lemmy was started by authoritarian communists (often called tankies) who got banned from Reddit, so they are generally more abundant here. They have their own alternate version of reality where the USSR was the most perfect society to ever exist and the west is the source of all evil in the world.

There are a few instances (aka servers) they tend to congregate on, but the main one is Lemmy.ml. It was the first server made so despite its extreme ideological slant, it still has a lot of subscribers. Just avoid any communities on Lemmy.ml and this shouldn't happen anymore.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago

And hexbear IMO.

The Soviets raped and killed everything in sight when they entered Romania. They can go to hell with their "help". They fought the nazis, and they took advantage of the rest of us.

Nevermind how they installed a communist regime that ruined romania for like a decade or whatever. Not that communism is bad but that one sure was.
