Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Lol this is so true 😂
Men's shampoo (or any other shower product) sucks ass. It's why I started using women's everything, back at 16, waay before even starting HRT.
Still cis tho :3

I had a good laugh when I saw “Dude Wipes” is a product. That product touches my ass so I need some firm affirmation that wiping my butt won’t make me gay, I guess?

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It's sad, but some people (men) actually think that wiping their own ass will make them gay. And so they just don't. They don't wipe their ass, don't wash it in the shower. "Just running water over it is enough, scrubbing would make me gay". I've never quite understood that. Toxic masculinity is just the worst...

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I've never heard this and I've been a man my entire adult life. That doesn't sound like toxic masculinity, that sounds like that person has much more serious issues.

[–] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm chronically online and yes, this is far more common than one might think, and especially in the "Manosphere".

I've read everything ranging from dudes arguing that touching your butt makes you gay to women complaining about dudes not wiping. Yuck.

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Ewww. Should someone tell them that using the same logic means that they aren't washing other body parts, like their weiners. I would call it something more masculine but weiner sounds more appropriate in this case.

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago

I've heard it from a couple different people over the years, and the kind of people who say dumb shit like this are pretty clearly dealing with multiple mental health issues. Usually the kind of person you can tell within 5 minutes they support Andrew Tate and watch/listen to Joe rogan

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago

That's honestly good for you! Yep, these are indeed...more serious issues

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Toxic masculinity is any overt masculinity that has a toxic outcome… So this counts.

[–] yogurtwrong@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Bidets are commonplace in my country plus I do wipe my butt and I am kinda gay soooo...

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wonder how many of them are actually gay and blame wiping their ass as a kid.

I call them insecurity wipes.

[–] marighost@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

That brand also makes "Little Dude Wipes," so big beefy manly men can teach their boys how to be big strong manly beefy hunky men, too, when wiping their shitty ass. They're also double the price of standard store brand baby wipes for less wipes per package.

[–] L7HM77@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Apparently there's pumpkin spice flavored dude wipes now. Do with that what you will. Mixed messaging if you ask me.

I saw a photo of a shampoo bottle from the US once. Apparently the shampoo was tactical. I have been trying to figure out what that means.

[–] Edge004@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Usually, that means it's marketed towards insecure men. The lifted truck type of people

It means using it is poor strategy. If you are Russian, also an unsuccessful operation.

Sandlewood... Why do they think we want to smell like driftwood. Are we trying to attract carpenter ants?

[–] morto@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And if you read the ingredients, they're the very same things, just with different synthetic color and aroma. Oh, and different prices, of course.

[–] GianBarGian@feddit.it 7 points 1 week ago

Yah honestly this post just confirm that marketing does work indeed.

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

"Military Grade" - all hair falls out. Yep it works.

[–] happy_wheels@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Oh man I love this so much BC its true.

Feminine products are amazing, smell GREAT, and thw packaging is visually more pleasing to look at.

Men's stuff is just... Bland. Smells like chemicals or generic "nature" scents. And ths packing is just monochromatic n bORING.

The only thing that bothers me about fem products is the girl tax/pink tax. Shaving products come to mind.

But otherwise fem products are great~~

I only buy womens shampoos and conditioner, because after a hiatus i have been growing out my hair again (already below the shoulders), and womens hair care products are in my experience a lot more viable for taking care of long hair. While they were short, i did not give much of a fuck.

I do like some male-branded shower gels tho, especially the ones with an ice effect - it just feels really nice on the skin for me, and they smell fine.

Regarding shaving i have gone back to the roots. I did get myself a safety razor, because these multiblade things were destroying my skin and it is a lot cheaper too. Only took a few shavings (and about 5ml of blood lol) to get the hang of it, similar to learning how to shave in the first place. Women, if my face is finally happy after years of torture, then these things are probably fine for you too, even when there's no marketing for it at all!

I agree with this so freaking much!
Feminine products are totally the best! The great smell, the pretty packaging...and fuck it, even the liquids themselves are pretty most of the time 😆
Pink tax is a biiiitch tho. And yeah, especially with shaving products. "Women's razors" (at least, the ones I use) are a dollar more expensive, along with "women's shaving cream" (literally what?) is way more expensive than "men's shaving cream"? This is so dumb. We live in a patriarchyyyy 😭😭😭

Fem products are the bestest 🩷
Legit don't know why anyone would pick anything else 😂

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Cishet man for context. I pick manic panic shampoo and conditioner for my hair and the big cheap store vanilla gel for the body.

It's not gendered. Both gendered versions of the products cost like 3 times more.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, cishet dude with long hair, I've been using women's hair products for decades. They're straight up just better in 99% of cases.

I am kind of partial to the male-coded body washes though, I do like wood scents. I usually use a nice sandalwood gel. But for hair stuff yeah basically all men's products are garbage. You can sort of get away with it if you keep your hair chopped short but anything approaching shoulder length or longer, just save yourself the hassle and go to the women's aisle.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Okay, listen...
I praise you big time for using conditioner. I don't think I know a single man who does...also body gel? Holy shit, some men actually take care of themselves?? /s
I'm proud of you ❤️

Both gendered versions of the products cost like 3 times more

👀
Time to become genderless...while in the shower 😆 /s

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm proud of you ❤️

Don't. It's cuz I dyed my hair. For the color to stick I really started taking care of the hair. I still shower in like 10 mins tho lol.

I don’t think I know a single man who does…also body gel?

...that's weird? I thought that's just having a normal shower?

Shampoo for the hair, conditioner because long hair, shower gel for the body. Seriously wondering what people you've met in life.

[–] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Hey, good on you! ❤️

damn you gotta meet more gay bottoms. I think most of the ones I chat with are very good about taking care of our appearances.

To each this own I love the pine mixed with boar guts smell. It makes you feel like you’ve just been to a sauna in the alps then pumped iron till your packs are full or climbed a Christmas tree in the freezing snow then ate some ribs next to a warm fire.

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

This is objectively bad shampoo. I can't even wash my car with it

[–] python@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

huh, different strokes for different folks i guess. Women's hygiene stuff is fine, but I don't really like how weak it is. My current lime/hibiscus flower or whatever flavored shower gel might smell nice, but it wears off within like an hour and I smell sweaty and gross again. But whenever I steal my husband's generic ⚡blue⚡ shower gel it lasts an entire day (even if I feel like a middle school boy's locker room). Same with deodorant. My husband got me my own Old Spice stick because I kept stealing his.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

That blue shower gel hits hard, welcome!

Fuck ya, I want to smell like a nuclear reactor.

[–] Hundun@beehaw.org 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, I'd rate the scent 3.5/10 - not good, not terrible

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 4 points 1 week ago

Its got to be at least a 3.6.

A real mans ~~shampoo~~ cleaning solution!

I'm kidding don't try this at home; your eyes will burn like crazy, inhale it and it will feel like your lungs are on fire making cigarettes feel like a child's game, get it your nose and you won't smell anything for a day, enough exposure on your hands and they will shake--permanently. Cleans real good though. Non of that 99.99% kills bacteria bullshit, it's a tactical nuke.
